People make this harder than it is. Grab some of your favorite scent and lightly spray your filter before you install. empty glove box, on the right side grab the cable with a pair of needle nose pliers and when you get it off let the pliers hold the cable off to the side. then use a small pry bar and apply pressure on either side until the locking tab releases (use a light to see how the tab locks in) and once it releases hold it so it does slip back in while you do the other side. It doesn't take that much pressure if you apply it right next to the tab. I use a stanley wonder bar and it works great.

Do you not change the filters in your house either? When I pulled mine at the time as yours is, it was pretty black

I have removed the glove box several times and it is not an enjoyable job. I'm always terrified I'm going to scratch something. Word of warning make sure you disconnect the damper before you try to pry the glove box open. I didn't once and ripped the string off. Behind the glovebox there is a hole in the plastic that you can attach the damper to.

Iíve done it once and decided I would only do it again on a hot summer day instead of when the plastic is cold soaked. It felt too much like something was going to break.

I just installed the cabin air filter but when I start it up there some sort of noise coming from it?
Edit: The second time wasn't as bad the sound was faint then eventually is went away but now whenever I turn the AC all the way up it sounds like those roller coaster rides you get on where it blows steam at you. I got the K&N air filter

Why? You can get a nicer one that filter out more stuff with activated charcoal, like the FRAM Fresh Breeze.

Seems like the general steps are similar to most other cars, just a little more difficult. It's not worth pay $150 for, though.
I stopped using charcoal filters for these and here is why

If you notice it comes sealed in a bag. There is fine charcoal particles all over the bag. These particles will drop down into the fan assembly over time. It'll get into the bearing or motor housing and make a faint clicking or spinning sound that can be annoying. I stick to OEM cabin filters for this reason.

Are some of the gloveboxes different on our cars? I ask because I have a '16 2SS and it requires no tools to flex in the sides of the glovebox to get past the tabs. With the glovebox open all the way, just grab the sides as close to the dash as you can with your hands and gently bend them inward. Voila. I am not Hercules, FWIW.

Never heard about this before... Maybe I should research more.

Just bought my car used with 20,000 miles, it came from Tulsa Ok. Had to use the screw driver and rag, was hard but not impossible. Just had a little dirt in the filter . I tapped it upside down on the sidewalk. Wanted to make sure there was no bugs or small animals in it.

To have the dealer/shop do it? That's one of the things places make their money on. Same with brakes.
