124 days and she's likely gone - UPDATE! NOT DEAD!
Hit a deer last night on the highway. Zero time to even begin to brake as it ran right out into the road. Hit it dead-center. Car did a great job protecting me...all airbags went off, the car stayed straight, and I was able to pull off to the side of the road and walk away. The engine would not restart and the damage to the front end is excessive. The deer was punted about 75 feet off the side of the highway.
Lucky to walk away, lucky that nobody else was in the car, and lucky that I was not on two wheels...but, man. First car I ever ordered. My dream car. There will never be another one quite like it. I'm assuming that it is totaled, but even if it isn't and it gets repaired, I cant imagine it ever being the same. We'll see what happens...claims adjuster cant get to it until Friday at the earliest...

I think the ecm may cut fuel or spark with air bag deployment. Mine wouldn't restart either when I wrecked it. I tried to move it so the wrecker could get a better shot at it, starter would spin it, just wouldn't light. I bet they repair it.

Usually around 70-75% of the actual cash value will prompt the adjuster to declare the car as a total loss, airbags or not. Salvage value calculates into that too.
Cars come and go, and while that's an awful thing to happen, you walked away, and that's what's most important. |

What is important is that you're here with us, and safe. The car at the end of the day is still a car....
Still enough SS's out there maybe you can get another...

That really sucks, glad you made it out ok.
Honestly, I wouldn't want it repaired. With the sh*t quality workmanship present in all industries now, better to have it totaled out. That way you can start fresh with no worries about subpar repairs or a major collision to effect future resale value.

My guess is yes it's totaled.
In Michigan, if the repair estimate is equal or more that 75% of the value of the car, they consider it totaled. FWIW, my insurance allowed me to keep the car if I paid the remaining value of the car less 20%. Foe example, 2015 Malibu LTZ. Valued value $16500 or so. Original body shop estimate was 14200 or so, I was told I could keep the car as is if I'd settle for a payment of $12500 or so. For me is was a no brainer to accept that deal as I's get the $12500 payout, pay the body shop the difference between that and the repair cost, basically it would cost me to keep the car and get it repaired for $2000 or so. Far less money than i would have to pay to replace the Malibu. Plus I get my old car back. It was low mileage (40000) plus it had the 2.0 turbo, where new Malibu's come with a 1.6 with a CVT. |

Wait for the estimate. My son had similar damage to his G37 and I thought surely totaled. Repair estimate was like 24 pages. They sourced some of the parts used, which probably helped keep the estimate down.

That’s a good point. Hopefully that is the case here. I think that I’ve settled on wanting this car repaired, so if the engine gets away without damage that’s a big win.

Thanks for the well wishes, all. I don’t have any interest in a salvaged vehicle, so if it’s totaled then it’s gone. That’ll break my heart. Dreamt of this car for a long time and it was the first thing I ever custom ordered. Pain.
