IMHO, I think it just takes dedication and Lots of seat time. And maybe a good set of tires! I have the desire, but it's hard to get the seat and track time while raising a family, pulling your 40's and the big one - keeping momma happy!

You can do it Martin. Tell the wife and kids your hanging out with the boys having a few beers and BBQ. If she wonders why you are taking your helmet just say dear we might play a little football also. She'll be ok with that. Just don't forget to hide the time slips. I've never done this but it sounds good to me.

Do you know if license plates and current registration are required to run? Of course I have insurance. I had my car shipped from Texas in May and still can't get into DMV for plates and registration.

As far as temps - that'll be a crap shoot. But if it's too hot, is it worth going? I think so. Time in the seat - a lot of it, IMO, will be necessary to run stock 10's with an M6. I am trying to get a set on Nitto NT05R's for the trip. I have NT555G2's and they SUCK!
It was pretty hot last time we went, got there at 4 and did 9 passes left at about 7pm. If its too hot the times aren't good. Ill see what we wind up doing that day.

You are doing a lot better than me. I just hit the drag strip last week for the first time. And once this week. I am avg low 8 sec for the 1/8th now. I have been using launch control at 2500 with 5% slip. I did not know you can run launch control with traction on. I usually select sport 1 or sport 2 mode. Still spinning out at WOT. How do you keep it on. Might be a dumb question.

My best run with street tires was with launch control set for 2400 rpm and wheel slip at 8 in track mode.. only made 2 passes on the streets tires as there was a long line.

When you set the wheel slip amount in launch control, it is the traction control system that is limiting the wheel spin to the limit you set. I've still never tried launch control at the strip, only on the street, and my best results were with 12% wheel slip and 1200 RPM in Race PTM. With track prep at the strip, you may be able to raise the slip to the 15% max and get better times. You may not even spin if your air pressure is right for the track prep and your burnout. I would venture to say that the 5% slip likely hurt you, as it has always cut power on me even though there didn't seem to be any spin during my street tests. Likewise, the high RPM slowed my times down as well. Something to test next trip to the strip. Guess I should've asked if you were an auto or manual, because a manual would likely take a different setting than my auto.

Here's the time slip I was in right lane, I haven't been to track in a while so my reaction time is Terrible but I was not really concerned just wanted a good hit.

Nice pass for your first time. I was going to say you'd likely run 11.1s if you dropped your 60' time down into the 1.7s, and then you did exactly that with your drag tires. Nice job! I'm confident you will trim your 60's down into the 1.6s with more time on your drag tires and get into the 10s.

M6.

At 5% I’m still slipping even if When I get to 2nd gear. I have to ease off the throttle till I’m a little bit into 2nd gear. I do have to try higher slip and see what happens. I tried lower rpm 2,000 to be exact. My car stalled on me at the green light. Appears that engine didn’t have enough power when the tires hit the sticky track.

Your target RPM would probably be much higher than the autos, so you may be close on that setting, but I'd definitely raise the slip to see what happens. With no prep, I had better times with a little wheel spin than having tons of power cut due to the low slip setting.

Don't use the launch control with the slicks. Roll thru the water about 2 ft, turn all the shit off. Do your burn out in the manual mode, start out in first and bring it to about 5500 until you start seeing the slicks start to smoke and then shift into second and you'll feel it start to hook and lugging the motor down, let off the brake still applying some power and you'll feel it hook. Go straight to the line and remember to put it in the auto mode from the manual mode. Stage it and bring the R's to about 1500 and let it eat. I always put my side mirror down so I can see when I've roll all the way past the water and you can watch the mirror to see when the slicks start to smoke. Go get that 10 second pass. If you do your burn out in the water all the water gets up inside the fender well and drips down on top of the slicks and your spinning off the line.

Solid runs.

Did you use launch control on the 11.1 run with slicks?

Quite a difference in the mph compared your first posted run. Better air that night than the first time?

The OP is driving an M6 as I am. Should we still shift into second, or just back off on the throttle until it starts to bite and then disengage the line lock and move to stage?
