Exposed Carbon Fiber Hood Air Scoop

Why is the EXPOSED WEAVE CARBON FIBER a $600 option when ordering the car but $1600 if you try to get one through the GM parts stores?

Because the $600 is an upcharge over the cost of the regular painted carbon fiber hood insert. It's not just $600 for the entire part.

That is a great point and makes sense.

The reason the exposed CF hood costs more is because since the carbon weave will be visible, during the layup process, extra care has to be taken to ensure the weave pattern is evenly laid up and maintain a evenly spaced weave.

If it's destined to be a painted insert, then minor weave pattern errors can be tolerated since the paint will cover them up.

Go price the 1LE option for the ZL1 and see how much it costs vs the $7500 price from the factory.

The one thing I don't understand are the vehicles that get a "refund" for not having certain standard options. They give you a $50 refund on something they charge you $500 on when it's not even installed in the vehicle.

Its the equal to ordering whopper and holding the lettuce and onion. The condiments all cost money but if you take that stuff out the burger still costs the same and they don't reduce the price of it.

Capitalism. Lol.

Yes. Ridiculous.

Ever watch Shark Tank? You see people come on and give their speech then the potential investors ask what their margins are.

Then it's like "Oh it costs us 50 cent to make this product and we sell it to businesses for $5." And the investors are like "So you profit $4.50 on each product sold? That's decent but you could sell it a little higher".

Oh absolutely. The profit margin on things are unbelievable these days. Something that costs $5 to make us sold for $20 giving the mfr. a $15 profit margin, and that's being nice about the prices too. I've seen things sell for as high as a 1000% profit sometimes which is insane.

If you wanna see stupid gross margins, make medical devices. 1000%+ all day every day.

The regs are a pain in the a$$, however.
