Radiator fluid change
Just some helpful information on a recent radiator fluid change.
My 2017 (ss 1le) has about 13K miles, mostly track. I did a PH test, using those test strips that you wet with the radiator fluid. The PH was a borderline acidic, so I decided to change out as much fluid as I could. Access to get the the radiator drain plug will require the removal of the lower panels, not difficult, but a bunch of screws, bolts. The drain plug is located on the bottom passenger side of the radiator. You can use your fingers to loosen (do not attempt to fully remove it) it with a half a turn. Finger tight only. I was able to get out about 2 gallons of old radiator fluid. I used only GM original radiator fluid concentrate with distilled water. Take your time in filling both parts of your recovery containers, squeeze the upper radiator hose a few times to burp any air. The SS 1LE has a 13.4 quart capacity system, I removed about 8 quarts. The pH reading after the change is back in the normal range. Not too terrible of a job to do. The fluid condition looked new, but don't be fooled by the color, check the pH level on your car to see if it is okay. Best regards, Ray |
