Which is lighter, NPP or no NPP ?

Does anyone know if you save weight either way.

With or without NPP ? Is there a weight difference ?

Also is there a dyno difference between the two ?

THANKS !

Stock NPP will weigh more.
Valves, plumbing, wiring.

That being said, moding it and having an AM axle/cat back will lighten it back up and, depending on the system, you can have the valves to bypass the muffler.

I'm willing to bet the weight and power difference is so negligible that you couldn't even actually measure it

I think someone cut their NPP off and it weighed about 35lbs. And was about 2 lbs lighter than the 2 axle back mufflers they installed.

Isn’t taking weight off of the rear of the car going to negatively affect rear wheel traction?

Definitely, but at the difference that we are taking about here, it's not going to matter

The stock muffler will weight more then the NPP valves, there is no power difference. One rating

At one time I had a both of them in my shop I think it was seven pounds difference. NPP Muffler was a little heavier, then you have the additional tips, then the valves.

I guess the real question is what are you doing with your car that the weight of the muffler is a factor? Most people, when it comes to exhaust, are more concerned with efficient flow. You’ll gain a whole lot more power when focused on that rather than the 5-10 pounds added by a muffler. With a lighter muffler you might shed 0.000000001 second off your 1/4 mile time! If you’re really concerned about weight, go with a muffler delete. Problem solved.

NPP stock system isn't too heavy compared to the aftermarket. Infact it's generally only a few pounds difference. The real kicker is the aerodynamics. From what I read removing it removes the smooth airflow from below and the valence will introduce drag. Not sure how thoroughly this has been tested but it's something to think about.

If you're satisfied with the sound as it is. I would leave it. If you want more sound, try to go after the headers instead or the secondary cats to see if it's more your cup of tea. In terms of performance the stock NPP is fantastic and switching to aftermarket generally does nothing.

Having the stock rear valence exposed, and possibly inducing drag, was one of my biggest questions when I was shopping for axle backs. It looks like a damn parachute back there lol. From the info that I gathered it most likely won't be enough to cause a difference. At least on a street car that isn't seeing insane high speeds

Something could be fabbed up to divert the air down and out the back.
