Opinions on NA build set up.
Hey all, I just recent had a Cam/CAI/Flex fuel/Ported heads/Long tubes/off road connection pipes installed on my car. It made a modest 535 HP and 477 TQ. I know I’m leaving horsepower on the table since I’m still running a stock throttle bottle and intake manifold. I want to have a pretty solid NA build, and ive been doing my research but still have trouble making a decision.
I’m wondering what the benefits are with running a ported LT2 vs. MSD vs. something else, and equipping this with a throttle body to get the most out of the build. Should I got with a ported 95mm or a 103mm? What would the you guys do? What would my estimated numbers be with the addition? My end goal would be 600 whp all NA but I know without some serious engine modification and probably a bigger cam that ain’t happening. Any information would be greatly appreciated. |

I think since you already have a cam set up you won't benefit that much from the Lt2 as it may not make hp in the rpm range of your cam. Ported Msd or High Ram would make more since and probably the 95mm would suffice with your mods. The MSD will make more hp in the upper RPM range where you just won't see that with the Lt2 in my opinion.

600 na? i would throw the dyno number in the trash and simply look for a setup that will get you what you want. if a dyno number is what you want, get the car to 580 and shop dynos, you'll eventually find one generous enough to fulfill your goals.
if you want a high output na setup you will need a ported msd/hi ram, at least a 95 mm tb, 2" primary header, ethanol and worked cylinder heads to get started. edit: an LT2/ZR1 tb will give the best bang for the buck, but not the most gains. id look to pick up 15-20 whp from the intake manifold/tb. edit2: i now see you have ported cyl heads and ethanol. do you have any real performance measures on the car? those dynojet numbers look pretty soft, but dynos be doing dyno stuff.

Do it right the first time and get the MSD. or wait for Texas speeds high ram to come out that’s supposed to fit under the stock hood.

btr is working on an LTx intake manifold, as well.

its not uncommon to see fbo cars gain 90 whp. 40 whp more from heads/cam...? long as you're happy.

That’s nice. Still forgetting the IM/TB, I’m sure it’ll boost that +40... thanks for the input. Also to piggyback off your previous posts the dyno is just a tool. I’ll be scouring the market for a used ported MSD hopefully. Maybe when the numbers come out for the new IM’s that could also be an option. I’ll keep an eye out. Thanks all for the input.

I'm running 103mm with msd intake manifold (unported) , going cam and heads soon so will have new numbers after. At 480/470 whp/wtq.
