New car upgrade
Hello, new 2021 camaro owner here. I have a turbo 1ls with the manual 6 and stock 18" wheels. Is upgrading to lighter wheels and better tires the best performance upgrade I can make without voiding the warranty? Can anyone suggest some wheels that are lighter than stock? What do the stock wheels weigh by the way? Thank you.

I weighed the stock 18" tire and wheel at about 53lbs. To be honest I don't think you'll notice much from a slightly lighter combo if it's just a generally driven street car.

Thank you for the weight info. A tire rack tech told me the eagle sport tire weighs 26 pounds, making the wheel about 27 lb. Would swapping to an 18 pound wheel improve handling/acceleration on the street?

Switching to a 18 lb wheel with all else being equal would save you around 9 lbs per corner. This is about the exact difference between my 20" setup vs my 18" winter setup. On the street there should be a slight difference overall at the limit (again all else being equal) but how often are you at that limit on street. Also, consider how much this will cost. If it's cost effective then it might be worth it to shave a few pounds, but if not you need to consider the cost to benefit ratio

When it comes to weight reduction, wheel weight is best weight.
Combine it with a stickier tire compound for best results. |
