We added a Smoothboost to the Whipple 3.0L car.

It completely got rid of all the issues we were having with the bypass wanting to snap shut and make full boost basically any time you went over 30% throttle.

We also added the Kooks/Vengeance race exhaust. The car picked up 5hp and 30ft/lbs over the 1-7/8" headers that were on it. I was a bit disappointed by that. I think it just needs more pulley to really pick up anything more. We're at 18psi.

Magnuson just puts a NOS jet in the vacuum hose. That slows the bypass from snapping open and closed.

We tried playing with springs and restrictors. Nothing helped.

Told you lol! I’ve been preaching about the benefits of Smoothboost the last two years after having bypass issues on my old 2.9 blower. It smooths out the boost, eliminates idle issues due to low vacuum, and makes tuning a breeze since you never need to swap pulleys. Put your “race” pulley on and simply turn the knob down to start tuning….if the pull looks good you can eek the boost up a little at a time until you’re at full tilt. When you’re ready to drive on the street, leave the knob at half power. If you need more, it’s a twist of the knob away.

Oh, and with the Smoothboost, boost by gear and emergency boost dump are available too with the right ECU.
