I have a friend with a Challenger SRT 392 and there is no more cabin space than my car...I'm only 6'2 and I have to set the seat all the way back touching the rear seat to be comfortable...It's an auto and it's fun to drive, she had a R/T and traded up to the SRT...To me a coupe is what it is, the Charger may have been a better option for your family...

The Camaro was a 3rd car, we had two 4x doors cars for those family days.
The Challenger is the 2nd car now and no more 3rd car so it needed to provide a flexible solution in the case of family need.
We had the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Magnum which are similar to the Charger (LX platform), all good family car but all comes Automatic and that was not what we wanted for the ''get away car''.

Compare to the 5th Gen Camaro, the inside cabin of the Challenger has more Head room, leg room, shoulder room, rear head room, passenger leg room all by about 1inch and it can seat 5.
As per the trunk, we can fit a twin baby stroller plus bags for 5 people and then some, can't do that in a Camaro.

A inch of space is almost irrelevant, but I understand your position and how you came to justify the change...Trunks aren't used for baggage, their made for sub-woofers...

Compared 2010 R/T to 2010 SS had my son sit in the back seat of both Camaro and Challenger behind the driver, had more room in the Challenger than the Camaro. I would think that the 2016 is even a tighter fit in the back seat than the Challenger. My son is 6' 2" by the way the Mustang was the smallest he could not sit in the backseat of that car. I had to get a car that I could fit people in the back seat that was the only condition that I was given from my wife, if not I was not getting it as it had to perform 2 duties my car plus 2nd family car.

Nope mine wanted the camaro for the lack of rear room. That way we don't have to cart people around.

Well, I was at Racewars this Sunday at ICAR motorsport park and had the chance to race the Challenger.
I did 3 runs on the 1/4mile strip: ran (14@102mph) (14.1@101.5) (14.2@98.5)
The car is fun but slower than my stock Camaro was at the strip. (avg 13.6@110) (best 13.3 @111)

Also ran 3 tarmac Attack laps: (27.9) (27) (26.5) Best of the Day was 24.6sec done by a Prep/Tuned turbo Honda Delsol dedicated track car.
I really liked lapping the car, it feels solid and pretty well balanced except for some understeer at the limit.
With equal front tires, it's pretty much on par with my SS 1LE on this technical circuit.

I had a great time though.
