It’s pretty clear in the data. Look at the PDR data for some ZL1s and you’ll see top speeds and lap times fall off once you get the oil to 270.

It’s a thing. It’s not a “catastrophic get off course” kind of thing, just a loss of power.

Well they could.. I have an SS 1LE and haven't met a ZL1 running advanced with Chin so I can't even play with them on track :(

I have polled 3 actual owners, 2 very fast, one fast enough...thus far results are:

1. None
2. Some, but not sufficiently prenounced to affect pace much at all
3. Pending response.

I think vids where pace drops a bit could be a combo of tire and driver fatigue as much as anything - just a hunch nothing else.

I have not seen a single report of a car losing 200hp and turning into an SS. I think if that were happening folks would be screaming bloody murder a long time ago, especially after what happened with a Z06. And there seems tons of folks beating up on those cars in Cali and Texas...

I am gonna wait for the 3rd response and that will be more than enough to cement my position based on actual owner feedback from top shelf drivers.

Just curious...have you considered a used/CPO p-car at all? Would hold value much better than a ZL1. Wouldn't be as fast though at that price point if you're looking at outright lap times.

Love pcars, but to get something decent id need to pay double a new zl1 price.

My ss 1le has held its value pretty good, i have an offer from my original dealer to trade it at 75% of what i paid for it at the end of this season (2017 MY but 3 full seasons).

A new ZL1 is 73Gs a used GT3 about 150G..
New well equipped (handling wise) Cayman is 6 digits...
New GT4s will be way over that i am sure.
Used Carrera S is nice but again pricey and one is yet to pass my SS...

Yeah, the performance per dollar with the 1LE makes it impossible to find something else that gets close. Also didn't realize you're in Canada so I'm sure pricing is different. 75% is still, I'm guessing, a loss of ~10k

The new 718 is awful IMO. I've driven one on the track and while it handles and feels great, the motor/driveline just sucks and is not exciting at all. I think the outgoing GT4 will be a super deal once the new GT4 is released. I'm noticing that they are already dropping down to <90k for great examples in the US. I think it may have to be my next car when I'm done with this one.

I've been very happy with my swap from (5th gen) SS 1LE to ZL1 1LE other than the tires seems to be going a lot quicker with the added power at the rear wheels.

Yep, 12G loss on gross basis (before value of smaller tax gets accounted for as it is calced on a difference).
Even then, that's like leasing it for 333 per month which is silly cheap.

A GT4 has crossed my mind, but at 120+++G for a nice used example it is still a full 50G extra for a slower car.
Lap times are not everything for me, as my current strategy is to keep things stock and just "arrive and drive", but i surely dont want to lose pace PLUS pay an equivalent of a nice new mid size SUV...

So it will be another Camaro for sure: either 2019 SS 1le, 2020 SS 1le, or a ZL1...we shall see

short tight tracks will be less advantageous to the ZL1. Any track with long straights like COTA or VIR will be more ZL1 friendly. My opinion is you would love the ZL1 A10 and wouldn't regret the decision. A few key mods (no tune) will enhance your experience with the ZL1.

My analysis was from PDR of John Heinricy driving a ZL1 1LE at NCM vs my own driving at NCM in similar temps.

YMMV.

Heat soak is a thing in supercharged cars. Even Camaros.

Thanks Chris. I've asked this question of Jeff Cook who posted a record lap just above. He seems to think those cars run like champs even in consecutive stints in just about any ambient. But he says G3Rs get greasy after 15mins and pace evaporates.

In any case, since John drove one and experienced reduced speed i will ask him for his thoughts directly.
He is such an amazing driver and a super helpful guy to boot!
