I live in California too. I am running Kooks long tubes with no cats and a set of noweeds cutouts. It is extremely loud. If you want it loud without removing the cats or the stock manifolds get a set of cutouts. You can also do the fuse pull for the diverters in the mufflers.

Believe it or not, our cars are pretty loud for stock. I would look into the fuse pull for the stock exhaust. You could also investigate other catback systems, but the NPP catback is an outstanding OEM exhaust. I would say that if you are not going for headers and keeping your cats, first try the fuse pull and see what you get.

Buy a set of jba catless midpipes about 300$ it's a simple bolt on and off you can change them in about 1 hr in your garage on jack stands. Just put your cats back in when you go for smog. It will be extremely loud. I had to buy a Forza 3 way exhaust controller so I can keep mine locked in quiet mode sometimes.

Thank you for being conscientious about the noise. Had an uncorked ZL1 hammer the throttle next to me at night at a dangerous intersection. Ungodly amount of noise that startled me. About as funny as putting a train horn on your car and blasting people with it. There is such a thing as too loud, and the right place at the right time.
The NPP cutout exhaust is already loud when it opens up next to some one not expecting it, and worse if catless. Please be considerate and don't do the fuse pull mod if you drive in traffic.

That is what I like about my cutouts. I can close them and keep the car a little quieter. I did not do the fuse pull because it was not needed.

Mine is basically straight headers to cutouts. Close cutouts and it goes through the stock exhaust.

I'm running factory headers factory npp exhaust believe me it's louder than anyone would need on the street. The first week I had it I was like I'm going to jail. Then ordered the Forza control. In quiet mode it's loud in loud mode it's stupid LOUD. I do have a cam though.
