Buying a helmet in 2021 -- frustration!

My last helmet is now expired and I'm planning on doing some open track events this year. The dang pandemic has apparently screwed up the supply chain and my local race shop is waiting new stock (they tell me that the whole industry is having issues, and the manufacturers can't give any solid delivery dates).

Anyone else seeing this issue and/or finding a solution?

Funny you say that .. last time I was at Wine Country I was talking about the benefits of the note expedient helmets... as long as they pass the same safety tests they should all be just as safe ... you pay a lot for things like lighter weight materials, more vents, comm hookups etc.

So while I agree buying a fully tested/safe helmet should be the goal, spending thousands to feel safer may not be the ticket.. and actually for the same money, a less expensive helmet and the appropriate HANS might be a better way to spend the cash. Food for thought... and look for the HANS connections.

Agree, I also use a Simpson Hybrid and have a second unit for anyone who rides with me. A doctor who I met at one event said you look like safety is important to you (I also wear a suit) and advised me to research the Hybrid, once I read up on it, made complete sense. Drawbacks, cost $1k, but how much is your safety worth. These cars do crazy speeds on track today compared to just 10-15 years ago...

Also nothing against Amazon as I buy from them, a helmet which requires fitment, probably not...

i still have a 2015 black armour i got brand new back in 2016 so just going to keep mine for now but looking at some fancy cf ones but they are $$$

Hah, really? I am in an iRacing league with Sage Karam, we were teammates last season. I met him through Sim Racing before learning he was a real life Indycar driver.
