I just rolled past 38k, back on the 14th of January I was at 15k…23k in 9 months! Love my Camaro. If I make the jump, you will know. I have driven in city traffic, farm back roads, mountain twists, everything except for a track.

Wait for the M6, it'll come, don't succumb to the "gotta have it now" and get the shiny new thing right in front of you if it's not exactly what you want.

I come from '12 GT 5.0, '16 C7 and '17 50th SS vert, all manuals. Earlier this year I was looking for a 23 ZL1 vert in Vivid Orange and there are a few out there, but dealer mark ups pissed me off, and I went looking for something else.

Almost bought a CT5-V BW M6, but same thing last minute dealer markups. $15-20k. F*ck that.

Didn't want a GT500...

So I ended up in a '17 911 Carrera S convertible, in Guards Red, but M7 991.2 911's are rare as hen's teeth, with only about 10% of them in the US getting ordered as sticks. I talked myself into it because I've wanted a 911 for 43 years, and the PDK is about as good as an auto transmission as you can get in any car.

But it ain't a stick. And while I don't exactly regret it, as I'm in a 911 that had a sticker price of $145k... and this car will run 3.5s 0-60 / 11.5 1/4's all day long with launch control. I do 100% miss the engagement of rowing my own. (and we won't even talk about how my car sounds like an angry vacuum cleaner... at least it sounds good above 5k rpm...)

I could see myself keeping this for 5-6 years and looking for something like a used SSLE, as having something tremendously fast can limit how much fun you can you, thankfully my car also sticks to the road like a 1LE, so I do have that.

Paddle shifters are definitely a decent stop-gap as a general concept, but not when there are 10 gears to go through!

The first 6th gen I saw on the road was a red hot convertible and I’ve wanted one ever since. Had to be blue for me though. M6 ZL1 convertibles are very hard to find, especially if you have a specific color you want. They’re almost always an A10. When I was finally in a position to go for it and buy mine I looked for about a year. I didn’t order one because dealers were still asking for at least $10K markup even on orders, not to mention allocation uncertainties. Was never going to purchase anything but a manual, but found mine about 400 miles away in the right color at the right price so I pulled the trigger on it even with the A10. No regrets. Car is fast as hell and fun to drive.

You will have the rest of your life to drive automatics. So unless you're regularly in bumper to bumper traffic, I'd seize the vanishing opportunity to acquire the last of the breed the way God intended.

Growing up every time I drove my dirtbike I was always looking for seventh gear, I’m so glad I have 10 now. It’s so fun putting in manual mode, just like rowing a boat push pull push pull and then when you come to a red light, it drops it into first for you ready to go again.
