Just because...

A while ago, I had my 14 Camaro LS and I made some cosmetic changes to it (SS wheels, all LED exterior lights, added fog lights). A club member sold me some SUV tires he had used on a road trip on his 5th gen (275/40 front, 315/35 rear). They worked great for the 5th gen, so another member had some Continental Extreme Contact DW06 in those sizes, so I bought them in the hopes that I could use them in a pinch.

Long story short, 5th gen goes away, SS sedan shows up on 19" wheels, and the 20" tires are mostly useless. Until I picked up the 6th gen LS/RS... hmmm, I have tires I can use! Turns out, the Conti 275s fit the front pretty well, minor rubbing on the fender liners but you can't really tell unless you are listening for it. The 315s, on the other hand, stick way out. They rub like crazy when at higher speed, and anytime the cubby is full (backseat!!)... Great stopgap, but not something I would have done if I had other ideas or money.

I think the largest tire you could reasonably fit on the stock 20x8.5" wheels would be 305 without rubbing or mods... agree or debate?

In my opinion reasonably fit vs actually fit are two very different things. Personally I'd never even consider anything wider than a 275 on a 8.5" wheel, and even then it's not the best fit by far. Also depends on the brand of tire in a lot of cases. Some brands run wider or narrower in their perspective size

I appreciate your input... very soon (within a couple weeks) I'll go back to something that Chevy actually intended... I'm planning Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 in 245/40/20 front and 275/35/20 rear. I have noticed that the staggered setup actually handles better than the square 18" or the square 20" with 245/40 all around, and I like a little handling increase.
