Those who say Mobil 1 is better because it's Mobil 1 don't know much, the gap between major synthetics are basically nothing now and UOAs prove it (in fact many outperform standard M1, not the EP product)

Is that Dexos? If not, will it void the warranty? Appreciate the tip.

I was told at my local AutoZone that the reason they don't stock it is that there are basically only 2 cars that use it (Camaro and Vette). My local WalMart told me the same thing. Bigger stores usually only stock what the majority needs. It's more cost-effective.

My understanding is dexos2 is primarily for small displacement turbo engines with high fuel dilution https://www.fuelsandlubes.com/fli-ar...s-complicated/ but the 2019 Camaro owner's manual supplement states "if dexos2 is not available 5w-30 dexos1 full synthetic may be used"

So in other words, Castrol Edge will work fine in these motors and likely outperforms standard Mobil 1 (with it's big dexos2 mark-up most people blindly pay for)

The dealer charged me for the Mobil 1 0W/40 FS as if it were the ESP. Car dealer SA said that FS was the substitute and there was no other available/discontinued. When I pointed out that AMAZON and Speedway both stocked it, they said it was old stock.

I just received 11qts today from Walmart. Nobody local had it. I paid $13.85 a qt with free shipping. Speedways price is great if they don't gouge you on shipping.

13.85 for a quart of synthetic oil is highway robbery. Crazy. All for a stupid dexos2 label.

If your not racing, the owners manual says you can run 5w-30 dexos1 Gen 2 what I have been running since I got my car, no issues, even racing, in my mind I know 5-30 would work fine, unless you doing the 24 hours of Daytona.

I actually enjoy it, I’m lucky to have a car lift and the garage has A/C.

The Dexos II label is only needed for the track. Any Dexos I certified oil will work on the street. Another substitute is the 5/40W Motul 8100 XClean.

I’m with you on that. Being able to do routine tasks like fluids and brakes without lying on the ground in a pool of sweat, or breaking my back on my knees makes a huge difference. I find it almost therapeutic in these strange times....

Kind of funny. I asked my service manager friend where I service mine about this oil craziness. I told him I ran the Valvoline MST 5/40 all the time, track and street, for almost 45000 miles with no issues. My 2020 doesn't mention 5/40 dexos 2 anywhere, like ya'll know, it's 0/40 dexos 2 (Mobil1 ESP) or 15w-50 (no dexos rating stated) for racing. 5w-30 dexos 1 is acceptable for street use. I said if I can run 0-40 or 15-50, why can't I run 5/40 dexos 2? He called a Chevy "engineer" who told him to tell me to stick to the owner's manual recommendations as they changed the oiling system in 2019.
