Top Speed

Unrestricted autobahn - 50 degrees/no wind. Road is flat with few slight climbs.

Chevy rates the SS 1LE at 175 mph...assuming PDR accuracy - number is right on for this particular day.

Note the manual ZL1's (non 1LE) can't do any more than this speed due to
shorter gearing/redline - interesting how 650 HP = 455 in this case. :-)

281.6 kph. Not bad. I have seen another video on youtube where they reached 295 kph

This is the video. When the guy tried to shift to 6th the car actually slowed a bit.

Or this one that claims to be a SS 1LE with an auto8....

Interesting - thanks for posting.

The first is a standard SS model - but still 183 mph (stock?).

The second appears to be a SS 1LE, but an export spec 2017 8 speed automatic without the 1LE rear spoiler? Guess the tires isn't what causes the SS versus 1LE difference. Seems hard to believe the rear spoiler would make that difference? (also stock?)

My car has a GM Air Intake, but has been proven to provide no gain in power in my experience.

Pretty impressive - modern technology brings such speed compared to just a few years ago when a Corvette couldn't hit that speed.

Nice. Good to have a legitimate uninterrupted ss 1le top speed run.

There is no EU spec 1LE, and having sat in a Camaro brother's EU V8 model this summer, it's basically an A8 2SS with the bulky mirrors and without the DRL's, no other difference I could tell (apart from the localized infotainment and gauge cluster, and boy, did that feel weird )

So this "1LE" in the second video must be a modded standard 2SS with some 1LE bits, wheels, tires, hood wrap, maybe brakes and suspension, which also means the speedo may not be fully correct. 294 km/h (182.7 mph) looks a bit high but not unattainable for an auto 2SS.

How I wish we had an Autobahn here, though.

The gray car looks like a normal SS. As far as the speed, that model should have a small advantage over your 1LE in my opinion. Not sure on the foreign market car's settings as far as the speed limiter, my US model had the 180 limiter in it. Also not sure what they do for speedometer calibration on the export version.

The white car is a fake 1LE for sure, it's really an SS with some parts added on. Has the 1LE style wheels and 1LE front splitter added. Still has the front tire deflectors which are not used on the 1LE. Still has the SS rear wing. Using the 305/30 tires on an SS will indeed make the speedometer read higher than it did with the 275/35s, I know this from experience, having tried a set of 1LE reps and SC3s on my SS.

Top speed recorded in "Mexico."

At least that's what all the street racing @ssholes say.

Seriously tho, careful with top speed runs... it only takes a bump.

On the subject of this car, the wider tires actually may have had an effect. I do not think that car truly was going 183, am thinking the speedo is optimistic. Knowing what tires are on the car, and the gearing, and seeing the tachometer, I think that the true speed was probably more in the region of 174~175.

I'd think the cars are pretty consistent at the top - HP against aerodynamics-purely. Obviously, still some variables - tail wind, altitude.

Once could still zero out the camber and pump the tires up...like I believe Chevy did at one point.

Still amazed that a ZL1 runs out of RPM at the same speed with ~40% more power.

The LT1 sure sounds good!
