Newbie Trailering Questions
So going to start doing track events and in the process of getting ready I had planned on leaving the car in gear and use the ebrake while trailering. But one of my friends suggested leaving the car in neutral not wanting to allow the transmission to take any of the brunt. I have trailered several cars before but once I thought of it they all were autos and by default it rested on the transmission and the ebrake. My question is what config do you guys trailer in manual transmission in gear or not, ebrake on or not?
Thanks in advance Doug |

I just use the park brake. If you have that set, it doesn't matter if the trans is in gear or not. It'll slide before the park brake lets a wheel turn enough to load the trans.

Always put it in gear. Pull the ebrake and strap in down.

correct sequence is strap down tight in neutral, set e brake, and then put in gear last.

There is a big difference between an Auto and a Manual when in park vs a gear. When in park in a auto, there is a park pawl that locks the transmission. It isn't using gears to hold anything. It is a metal pin holding the transmission from moving.
As for towing, I pull my car on the trailer to the parking stop I have and set the parking brake. Leave it in neutral. Then strap down over the tires.

guess i'll start doing this, seems to make sense! did 2,500 miles this past weekend and thing didn't budge using E-track and Mack's Straps despite strapping last. always in for "best practices" though!
