MSD Intake Manifold and K&N CAI

Just installed these bad boys the other night on my 2017 2SS. Someone on the FB Camaro6 page said something about the KN CAI limiting what my MSD is capable of doing. Is this true?

The K&N CAI seems to screw up the MAF. We had a member try one without a tune and it made the car run very rich.

I originally bought the K&N Blackhawk series for my car with the MSD intake and didn't have any issues. I would recommend eventually getting a tune for the car and it will respond much better with the CAI and MSD. I recently swapped out the K&N for RotoFab (just liked the look better, I doubt there will be significant HP increases) and have to take it back to get re-tuned.

I tend to try and bundle when I do a tune or re-tune since they can range from $300-$600. I have to take my car back to RPM to get a torque converter upgrade, so I swapped out the tires and rims, and put on the new CAI to have it all done at once.

If you just plan to do the CAI and MSD and want a remote tune I believe RDP Motorsport, and Pray Performance will do those for you. You would just need to purchase the programmer and tell them what upgrades you have done and they will send you a tune to use. It is usually better to take the car in the shop for a tune, but this way will also work depending on how much more you are planning to do. Hope that helps.

If you plan on keeping the ECU stock then yes you should ditch the K&N and get a Rotofab. However, if you plan to tune the car to the K&N is not a limiter and you will gain more power with a tune than you would with no tune.

In short. Tune the car.

Megahurtz is spot on.

A tune is really the right answer in this situation.

A CAI is a CAI...they all going to be within a couple HP from each other once tuned. The kicker is the Rotofab does not require a tune. Either way you should tune the car and reap the full benefits of that setup.

Agreed. Roto-fab all day every day. At least swap to a non oiled filter.

Funny, your car was the one I was talking about that had the K&N CAI. It was running around 11:1 A/F ratio when untuned, very rich for normally aspirated.

JuicedMotorsports beats everyone's prices on the Rotofab and MSD with the forum discount.
