New 1LE Lifted Wrong by Dealer

Hi All,

I am bringing my 2 week old 1LE back to the dealer to look at how they pushed the lift pads into BOTH side rockers, scratched the vinyl hood wrap while cleaning it, and NOW I just found they dented the stamped metal brace behind the front tire by lifting it improperly.

Pictures attached comparing drivers and passengers sides. The first 2 pics are the dented side, dent is near the longer blue screw. It's not a massive dent so my question is: What do I pursue out of this?? It's such an integral part of the car, I'd worry about any shop (even very reputable) working on this and possibly causing more harm. Is it less enough to not HAVE to fix? I'll never use this dealer for servicing, but what should I be fighting for?

Also attached the other issues with the hood scratch, rear bumper side scratch, and both rocker knicks.

Thanks!
-Joe

Have you called the dealer and voiced your concerns? I'm sure they will ask you to bring in the car so they can look at it.

I have, on the scratches. JUST found the dented metal piece under as I wanted to do another inspection. Bringing it in Weds, with this new dent added to the list.

For me I would not be that concerned about the undercarriage dent. I'd still point it out to the dealership to drive home the point about not properly lifting that car. But I would not die in the ditch in a battle over that since it's cosmetic only with no structural damage done. Now the other scratches - especially the hood I would pursue.

Thank you. My main concern was making sure the car is still structurally sound. My goal altogether is money back to find my own vinyl wrap installer.

It's absolutely annoying, but fortunately this looks like very minor damage that did not compromise the structural integrity of the car.

However, it's a sign that the dealership either does not know how to lift the car or the technicians don't care enough to protect your car, so you're running a risk every time they touch it.

Personally, I'd only take it to a service department with techs that work on high end Corvettes or at least expensive Alpha platform Cadillacs. The dealership I bought my car from had such a senior tech who was experienced, very conscientious, and after my second or third visit let me into the service bay to watch what he and his guys were doing. They went above and beyond each time, it was much more a learning experience than me "supervising" them. As a result, the underside of my car looks almost new at 4 years old.

Good advice. Most Chevy dealers have a senior tech or two that are certified to work on Corvettes. That's who I would want to work on my car.

Chevy did such horrible job w/ lift points and training their mechanics. Someone also tried to lift mine from that spot and crumpled it. Unfortunately, I had taken my car to 2 shops and couldn't prove which one did it. Wasn't until later I jacked up the car and notice it.

One of the dealers tried to 'uncrumple' it after I brought it up but they claimed it wasn't them. Unfortunately, now I have to reiterate every time , "please jack from the seam" I swear I say it 3-5 times before I give them the keys.

Worst part is, last time I was there someone in the mechanic area, was telling me oh it's ok to jack from there. I told them no, but they were insisting it was safe like on the corvette. I continued to say no..

i think the damage from "lifting" is actually from the factory when the body is riding on a carriage from the paint shop (because the metal doesn't really look bent in the picture) ya its bent i see it now sorry man somebody was mad at your car.

Lift with your legs, not your back ...

Seriously, the damage to the frame/unibody is probably not going to make any difference in the performance. It could get ya free oil change though.

My fender paint was scratched predelivery and I just compounded it a little and lived with it.

The most annoying pre-delivery scratch was on the interior plastic of the driver's side A pillar - I couldn't not not see it every time I drove. One guy with a rag and a ring ...

It's an easy and inexpensive fix, though: https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-pa...lding-84389078
