Yeah definitely, DFCO has been around easily since 2005, I'm going to say even earlier than that with the LS1 F-Body Camaros.

Granted timing may not have been as aggressive back in the day (or maybe it was, I never actually looked at the HP Tuners on that gen) but the crackles and pops have been a thing for quite some time now.

I just realized this post is in the ZL1 section, not sure if the tune changed on the LT4 in 2019 but it certainly did on the LT1...

Back in 2016 I posted screenshots of the stock tune from my 2017 ZL1.

For just a little perspective, my car is from the very first production run of 6th gen ZL1s. It has a build date of 10/20/2016.

https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=475346

The second screenshot from the second post of the thread, shows the Cutoff, DFCO tab. There you'll see the parameters for both DFCO and CFCO. This same tab was also in the stock tune of my 2013 ZL1.

As someone mentioned, the crackles and pops have been around on quite a few generations of Camaros.

Don't know much about tuning but I like the pops and bangs. Would the dealership update the ecu tune on my 2018 zl1 to the 2019 update so they are more prevalent?

Pre-2019 cars (including mine) pop and crackle a little bit, post-2019 ones are like firecrackers on steroids. The tune was changed specifically to increase the amount of burbles in 2019.

There have been several threads about this in addition to the one hawk02 linked.

Now you’ve got me curious about the changes. I’ll have to check the tune repository on HPTuners.com to see if anyone has posted the stock tune for a 2019+ ZL1.

100% correct… my 16SS sounded perfect (decel burbles), the 19 ZL1 sounded a bit reserved compared to the 16. The 22 LT1 is over the top….a bit too many crackles / fire cracker pops after moderate acceleration. Personally, I’d like to tone it down a bit.

Yes, but I'm not sure this is a good comparison since you have the automatic and I have a manual.

A 2017-2018 automatic might be easier to find in the repository which would provide a valid comparison to your 2021 parameters.

There definitely is a difference between a '21 auto and '17 manual. Just not sure how much that difference is related to model years.

The main difference in the tunes is in the minimum spark tables and negative torque requested off-throttle in the driver demand tables. Both conspire to reduce timing on decel, which leads to lotsa poppin and crackin in the 19+ cars.

I feel 6spdhyperblue nailed it in this thread.
