Losing coolant 23 zl1
Hey gents
23 zL1 at 4k miles My car has been drinking coolant. About 1/3 a bottle in 4k miles. I noticed the radiator in the pic has some dampness on both sides. Is this the ac condensor so it would be oil? I also noticed this morning the water pump pulley had some white spots on the outside of it. First time seeing that but not sure if its coolant or what. Dropped it off at the dealer today wondering why i have these issues potentially? |

Only way to tell what that is, is to get something you can stick down there with a piece of clean white paper towel to wipe it off with.
Could just be road debris that builds up there that doesn't get cleaned off easily by driving. Have you noticed if there is any leaking coolant anywhere? Just have to wait to see what the dealer says....hopefully it hasn't been leaking into the engine..... |

That's the blower HE. I saw the same thing on mine before upgrading.

I'd take it back to the dealer and ask them to put a dye tracker in the coolant. That way they can determine where it's leaking since it leaves a fluorescent trail from the leak.

Since your ZL1 is under warranty let the dealer fix it for you.

That much coolant in 4K you'd think its either on the ground or out the tailpipes...hmmm

Is it 1/3 of a gallon bottle or 1/3 of the top section of the overflow tank? The bottom part of the overflow can have some evaporation since it is not a sealed tank. Depending on weather and how heavy it is being driven I have seen the bottom tank drop from the full line down a 1/4 inch in 200-300 miles. 200-300 miles for me is 3 to 4 months as I don’t drive the car very often.

The OP is showing sweating at the rad core, to me it looks like the core is breached. Unfortunately these disposable radiators are non-repairable, not like the old days.

It looks like it may the heat exchanger for the supercharger that has the wet spots? I believe that is in the very front and towards the top? Isn’t the supercharger cooling loop separate from the main cooling loop?
The ac condenser is right behind it, then the main radiator. So maybe there is condensation from the ac condenser behind the supercharger heat exchanger that is attracting the dirt. |

The 2020, needed lower res topped off after about 20k miles. Both were tracked without coolant loss in the same area/environments. Day 2 haven't heard back from the dealer. |

Mine looks similar with 2300 miles. Also I have used about 1/4 gallon to top off the lower overflow in 1k miles that I have owned it. The first time I checked around 1.7k miles the bottom was near empty. Second check at 2.3k miles the bottom was 1/4 to 1/2 inch from full. I got the car with 1.3k on it so I am not sure if it was topped off before but I think it is unlikely. So my estimated total is about 1/4 gallon in 2.3k loss.
It will be interesting to see what the dealer tells you as it seems I have similar losses to you. Last edited by Redmoe; 11-29-2023 at 07:59 PM. |
