Am I ok wsith bias ply
Hey guys and gals, I need some help with a tire available to me.
Car in concern is a 2018 M6 zl1. Tires in question is a set of mickeys in 28x11.5/17 bias ply. As of now I do not have front runners and have heard that without them a bias ply will casuse bad wheel hop. Do you think I will be fine? By the time I get them on the car I expect to be around 700 to the wheels. If I decide to stop being cheap I might invest in the 20in front runners. |

So you are saying that you will be running bias ply on back with Radial front?
If so, that is a very bad Idea. Especially if its going to a sreet driven car too. |

Yes unless I find more options for front runners in a 20. Btw the bias would be for the track only

Bias on front and radials on the rear seem to work okay even though mixing at all isnt recommended. |

The rear bias tends to flex. Radial fronts do not.
So, your back end will sway, etc. It's not a smart idea...

My experience with bias ply on the rear and radials on the front is the same. It starts to get squirrelly at a bit less than half track and gets worse till you back off. It’s a sway from side to side with the steering wheel in the dead straight position. Trying to correct makes it worse. Same rear setup with bias on the front is dead straight and stable. Not fun and certainly not safe if another factor requires some wheel movement. Lower tire pressure makes it worse and it happens more quickly.
Bias on front with DRs on the rear have not been a problem for me. Always dead straight with no drama. Last edited by trz174; 11-05-2017 at 05:54 AM. |

This is how I ran my car for the last 2 years. Hoosiers in back and stock up front. It was not unmanageable, but I can tell you on my last pass I missed 4th and the car got way out of the groove. I ended up about 12” off the wall while aborting the run. It was enough of a shock for the owner to ask me what happened, wondering if the track had an issue.
Can it be done without consequences, yes. Is it recommended, definitely not.

If I end up getting skinny for the front do I also need to run bias ply on those or can I get radial for those since they are skinnys?
