I added some more details in that post, I think our coolant losses are similar. Mine seem to be slightly less but I have not tracked the car so that could make up the difference.

This doesn’t cover our model years but could be the issue: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...09122-0001.pdf

I have no coolant loss but the bottom corners of my hx also has grimey build up.
I am wondering if they naturally weep from the bottom and attract dirt? 1700 miles.

Do you know if your lower overflow is at the mid point line when cold? Just curious if they are filling them to the line from factory.

Actually, I just looked. The lower tank is well below the cold fill line.

I just had my entire cooling system drain and filled at a pro shop and this is the case with mine as well. No harm no foul. It’s even an aftermarket system now. Just a little top off. Usually a seasonal thing I’ve noticed when it gets colder. Probably evaporation of sorts

I think these have a fair amount of evaporation since the lower overflow is not sealed. Even the manual states something along those lines.

OP maybe the ZL1 has more noticeable loss than your previous V8 due to the added heat of forced induction? Please update us when you get it back from the dealer.

That is what I am thinking.
Can fluid be added directly to the lower chamber (if the top is full) without having to open the top cap as well and run the engine per the manual?

When cold you can fill the lower tank via the little tube behind the main cap. The manual says to fill bottom to approximately half way, top should be all the way to the filler neck.

The lower tank has vent holes in it, which contributes to evaporation over time.

...and why you may smell a bit of coolant smell underhood especially after running it hard.

Ah this is some good info. I appreciate it all i never seen those holes. But how much evaporation is normal? Id think this would evap the same as my SS. Granted these cars do get pretty hot in the engine bay. So zl1 owners how much coolant do you normally go through?

I followed up with the dealer and waiting for their response today.
