Skip shift in 2017 ZL1

I did a search and found LOTS of info. But could not find one for the 2017 ZL1. Does the 2017 ZL1 have skip shift. We already have to pay the gas guzzler tax, so do we also have to have skip shift?

If we do have it, is the skip shift eliminator the only way to get rid of it? (Other then a custom tune)

yes the 17' has a 1-4 skip to "save" gas. I dont know if there is some way it can be disable but if anyone knows let me know. It comes on every so often and its annoying. I dont want to skip a couple gears and lose that awesome torque.

Yes it has it. Find the skip shift solenoid on the tranny and put a $1.50 2.2k resistor in the end of the wire. Problem solved. The 99 Camaro and Trans Am both used the 2.2k. I doubt they've changed anything on the skip shift to require a different resistance to keep the trouble light off. If I had a new M6, that's the first thing I would do.

I would think you should be able to use an ohm meter to read across the solenoid and verify the resistance. If I remember right, the solenoid was on the driver side up near the top of the tranny.

I was a bit annoyed to find out it had it on this gen too but I will tell you that it is way less noticeable on this car. It rarely locks me out. The surefire way to avoid it is to throw technology (and EPA BS) right out the window and do the exact opposite of the intended purpose...throttle down!

When I get mine to about 1200-2000 between shifts it does not seem to activate the skip. And its more fun. I can afford the gas.

Why in God's name would they put this feature on this type of car??? By far the stupidest thing chevy could of done. It's a 650 hp camaro and they're worried about fuel economy... Who gives a shit.

It avoids the Gas Guzzler Tax on the SS's, maybe makes it less of a Tax on the ZL1's...

Yeah I don't like it either, but like Flynn said, it could be saving buyers quite a bit in taxes, and it's something that is really cheap and easy to remove.

Its not there to save you money on fuel. But there are other reasons to do it. Like saving you some money on the gas guzzler tax. Given the choice of an easily avoided gimmick or paying hundreds of dollars more for the car ... I'd take skipshift every single time.

Want to avoid it? Drive the car like the engineers intended when they programmed the parameters to skipshift. Give it some gas, go a bit faster before shifting, and in general have some fun with your 650 hp Camaro. If you are so not concerned about fuel economy ... don't drive economically. I'm sure the engineers that came up with it 25ish years ago shake their head every time they hear someone complain.

+10 lol

I have the skip shift on my Corvettes, but it has only bothered me once in the decades that I have had them (actually not even once, but I wanted to see how it worked one time...lol). I guess I am driving my sports car appropriately

I cannot imagine being able to drive my ZL1 slow enough to hit the skip shift...and if you are concerned about traffic, take off out of second gear and you will avoid the skip shift all together
