Shifter Rattle
I am having an issue on my 2014 2SS Spring Edition.Under any load and in any gear, I get this annoying rattle that doesn’t even go away with pressure on the shifter. I’ve taken it to several dealerships and get a different answer every time. One says it could be internal, one says possibly shifter bushings, and the other said it’s normal. I have it at a different Chevy dealership now because my warranty is only valid for 1 more week.
Funny how problems develop when the power train warranty is almost up. The rattle isn’t especially loud, it can be droned out by the radio or by the windows being down, but it is extremely unnerving and I am wondering if anyone is having a similar problem? |

Maybe time to throw an mgw on that. Those stock shifters are garbage. I don’t get how Chevy can put such crap on these cars.

Mine does the same thing. Only at higher rpms though. Looked at everything I know to look at but can’t find the source.

If you're not willing to get a new shifter, I'd say it stays at Chevy until the source of the problem is found since you're still under warranty. No point in having them come back later with a solution to have it come out of your pocket.

Maybe take off the shifter and spray it with dry lube in the linkage underneath the boot etc. This worked on the automatic shifter. Just spray it in there. It will leave a powdery residue which can be easily wiped but it shouldn't matter in your case since the shifter boot will cover it all up. The stuff is magic with these type of rattles.

I installed a Hurst Short Throw Billet shifter on my 2010 SS in December of 2009. It has been working great since with 62K miles on the car,

But MGW shifters are much louder than stock. It’s probably the bushings. MGW as said is much better than stock. But you’ll hear road noise. Just a smoother shift.

I would install a Barton Shifter. Best mod I ever did.
