Do headers actually make you faster?

Hi guys, been having the itch to buy a set of speed engineering headers probably the 1 7/8s just for better fitment but if anybody has feedback on the 2’ let me know. I plan on staying just a bolt on car for a long time currently have a Rotofab intake and cat delete pipes and a flex fuel tune, haven’t hit the track yet to get a new time with the mods but stock did 7.8 @90.5 in the 1/8 and a 12.1@114.5 in the 1/4 I’m hoping to get into the 11s with my current set up.
But the question at hand is do you guys think long tube headers will actually make me faster? I know on the dyno they’ll make a bit more power 10-20whp more than just catdeletes but how much faster does that actually make you?
Has anybody ran cat deletes then headers and get times for both? I’ve heard it’s only around 1/2 a tenth to .1 max and paying $1000 for .1 isn’t worth it IMO. Thanks for the feedback

about right, tune has to work too. You will get a little more with no cats (.24) and say .1 with front cat delets. Seems to be a good ballpark.

Headers will require a tune. Should pick up 25-30 HP. Yes, you will be quicker and faster.

I have a 10 second timeslip with the stock manifolds (NA), they may add a few ponies but you can buy other mods to help compliment your setup. Don't ignore Weight reduction and good DA, they will show solid gains too.

The stock manifolds on the LT motors are pretty decent but we're still picking up 30+rwhp with long tubes and a tune. That's power you'll feel and be rewarded with at the track. Track times vary but you can easily drop .2/.3. These cars are already pretty quick and it's harder to drop your times the faster you are. Dropping a couple tenths when you're in the 13s is easy. When you're in the low 12s/high 11s its a bit harder.

Half the gains of LT headers is from deleting the stock primary cats.

Cat deletes are worth 10-15whp, Long tube headers alone are worth 15whp. Do both at the same time then yes 25-30whp gain. Do headers and high flow cats, then you might see 15-20whp.

The biggest restriction on these cars is the primary cats where they neck down under 2" right below the flange that connects the factory header to the cat pipe.

The tune, which is essential with long tubes and/or cat deletes, is responsible for much of the HP increase and, of course, drivability. I doubt cat deletes alone are 15 HP on most dynos. 5-7 maybe.

Yes I would assume most know a tune is required...

I have seen supercharged cars only gain 18-20whp with Long tube headers over cat deletes.

Brandon Hill only picked 1 tenth with LTH's over cat deletes at the track with his NA GPI Heads/Cam car that ran 10.4's in the 1/4mi at the time.

The only dyno test that I recall seeing for an almost-stock SS with just adding primary cat deletes and a tune was a gain of about 10 or 11 hp, this was TSloper a few years ago.

Tests posted on the forum of long tube headers with high-flow cats, and of course a tune, seemed to gain about 15 to 25 hp, on a stock engine without forced induction.

This much hp should gain a tenth or 2, but, if you are still on the runflats, whether you can use the extra power to run that much quicker is unknown.
