What is up with people hating on the V6?

Seriously, I keep seeing snide comments across the forums like, "Why buy a V6 muscle car?" It really annoys me because the V6 in the Camaro is so powerful. Some people don't plan on racing or showing off how loud their engine is - I personally just want a kicka** car to drive, I love the Camaro, and the 2LT is what I can afford. Not only in base price, but slightly less for insurance and a crapton less for gas (won't need premium and the MPG is better). With the 2LT, my loan will only be 4 years (putting half down), and I'm 23 years old. I don't want to be in a crapton of debt so early in my life, and I think a 2LT/RS Camaro is a pretty kick** car for a 23 year old (or heck, for any age). I have the rest of my life to buy a V8 if I want one.

Anyone else tired of the V6 hate? :/

No problem with the V6, your money - do what makes you happy...I spent mine on a V8 & added a supercharger...

In some of the previous generations of pony cars, the smaller engine tended to be a truly pitiful little thing. It's going to take a while for people to lose that stereotype. Ford's following GM's lead and putting a 300+ hp V6 in their next V6 Mustang too though, so there's a good chance the stereotype will fade, at least among younger drivers who weren't behind the wheel any time in the 20th century.

Here's the hilarious part: my first car was a V8 '80 blue Camaro. Then, the V8 "only" had 300-something horsepower. So today's V6 has the power of yesterday's V8.

Not from me bud...the V6 has more horses then my stock '66 and '70 small block Chevelles had.

Some people are just are the way they are and you're not going to win a "spit'n" contest with them.

Do what works for you and enjoy.

Nothing wrong with a V-6 camaro. To me it is a major step up from the Fourth Gen's V-6.

As I have stated many times on here, had I been forced to use this car as a daily driver, the V-6 would have been my choice hands down.

To me the "hating" is just not warranted.

Regardless, you decide to buy what best meets your needs. The fact that it is a Camaro is an added bonus.

This topic has been beat to death on here. I don't know why so many v-6 guys feel compelled to explain why they got a v-6 over a v-8. My partner thinks the ss camaro is a joke compaired to his 6 series BMW , but I don't lose any sleep over it. V-6 guys, It must bother a lot of you that you didn't get the v-8 if you feel like you have to explain your self all the time. Just tell them what I do. F off of you don't like it it's not yours.

Exactly!

I know the Grand Marquis isn't a muscle car by any stretch of the imagination, but the V6 Camaro has more horsepower and more torque than my mom's 2002 Grand Marquis (V8 220 HP with 265 lb/ft torque). Policemen use Crown Vics and those are practically the same car.

304 hp "at the engine" is strong for a 6 considering most other v6's ex: challenger v6 is 245 hp, mustang 215 hp, charger 230 hp, now as for import 370z 333 hp, g35 320, and even the nissan gt-r which has a twin turbo v6 has 465 and is classed as a super car v8's will be a thing of the past just not now but its looking to be within the next decade.

I have to agree, the V6 has plenty of power, It even has more horsepower than my 78 Indy Pace Car Corvette. Keep smiling, knowing your driving an awsome car no matter the V8/V6 version.

ive surprisingly have gotten ALOT of respect with my car from guys with ferraris, vipers, GT500s. People with v8s, v10s, have asked me to pop my hood even after i have told them its a v6. They give the car alot of respect.
Only time i get some comments about getting the v8 is when some stupid kid pulls up in a civic or some other shitty car

You are already so far ahead of the game at 23 you have no reason to care what anyone else thinks about how you spend your money. Sounds like you have made wise choices, got a great car, paid off 1/2 to start, bought a car you can afford the maintenance, operation, and payments.

Most important it sounds like you got the car you wanted so don't let a few, and really only is a few, V8'ers get you down. Personally I think both versions are great, I could easily afford a V8 but if that is all they had offered I would be driving a Mustang right now or something with a V6 as I did not want a V8.
