V-6 underhood mods

OK just installed my "neon" bowtie/airbrushed hoodpad, new engine / fusebox covers and my painted blackwing intake. Not real sure about the silver on the engine cover but thats why you have to love paint,,,,,,only a can away from metallic grey!

Mine is in the works.... did the primer and one coat. Haveing to let it really sit for a while... when i taped over the paint, it peeled the paint off. And I'm using just the regular blue painters tape.

figures I'd be the only on here that had paint issues LOL

Went AutoZone and bought a plastic primer, the multiple cans of DupliColor paints I wanted to use and a can of DupliColor clear coat.

I washed the cover in dawn to get rid of any contaminents.
I sprayed the primer on in 2 even coats and let it dry for 2 hours.
I sparyed two coats of one color and let it dry for 5 hours.

Went to tape it using the standard 3m blue painters tape and it just peeled the paint right off. I left it overnight and tried again, and same thing.

I didn't sand anything, but I see lots out here that didn't sand. All I can think is that the plastic primer and dupli-color aren't complatible?

I didn't tape over paint, just the plastic itself, so I didn't have those issues. But yeah, like you said, maybe the 2 paints are not compatible.

Just wandered on to this thread. Did mine a while back, this must have been a picture from my IPhone, little blurry, but the idea is there!

Mystic, I used 2000 grit sandpaper, duplicolor adhesion promoter and regular duplicolor spray paint after I washed it down with dawn..just my personal experience, of course others havent sanded, or washed or used adhesion promoter. JMHO....Walt

Uh that looks good, but this is the V6 engine cover thread, I think there is a separate V8 engine cover thread....You may want to repost in there

Hey Mystic Blue (and others)
My son-in-law took his time because he also had trouble with the paint sticking or wrinkling. I think some dealerships have the engine detailed with silicone for shine and a new looking appearance. I suggest scrubbing with isopropl alchol (sp?), especially in the cracks and crevices...then dish soap and hot rinse. Adhesion promoter should be used on the parts to be painted...then a primer....then the color....then the clear coat if needed. Its not as easy as it looks.

The screen is gutter material from Lowe's....4, CCFL's for light stripes and a circle of LED's for the central Chevy bowtie....looks real good at night!
