Would You Put A Sign On Your Camaro For a Parade?

I have a chance to be in a city parade with my camaro. I want to put an advertisement Magnetic sign for my business on either side of the car..I went to build a sign.com to look into getting 2 of these signs made...I’m a little worried that these magnetic advertisement signs would ruin or scratch my paint.

Has anyone ever done this before with their cars?
Was it a good or bad experience?

My wife volunteered my truck for a parade last year. Truck is 8 yrs old I was worried but all came out well. It was pretty cool we had a bubble machine hooked up at the hitch.

Maybe look at vinyl signs if you only plan on using it once.

Haven’t don’t it on my 2016 but I did on my 2015 Black. I’m pretty sure if I didn’t wipe it down as many times as I did prior to putting the magnet on, there would have been scratches. Seems anything can scratch the stock paint; it’s not too tough.

I would be ok with it.... but depending on the politician, it might tarnish your reputation!

I agree with Ryan above. Just do it in vinyl, no magnet. Cheaper and less likely to scratch the paint.
With that said, you could always apply painters tape under the magnets to help protect the paint.

Yeah I was thinking the same or a piece of clear saran wrap under it. Nice thing about the magnet is reusable for future years/ads.

I've had magnetic signs on the car as well as some that just used magnetic tape around the edges. Ive done this quite a few times over the 6 year life of the car with no ill effects.

I just make sure the car had a good coat of wax (or two) before each event that I use a sign at.

And yes, they work if it's a parade or a slow cruise. At any speed higher than perhaps 20mph, they have a tendency to come off. The worst case would be if they start to slide.

BTW, the car is black, so any damage from the mag signs would show easily.

Keep in mind that if you use anything like saran wrap or painters tape, it will help eliminate the chance of damaging the paint, but it will also lessen the magnetic pull of the magnets increasing the chance the signs may not hold as well as without the tape/wrap.

Usually loan my 79 vette out for Homecoming/Christmas parades. Have had the vette since 87. The car was close to needing its 1st & only repaint about 12 years ago. Forgot to tell one of my best friends about signs. They used duct tape. Off came the tape, off came the silver paint. I never said a word, just got the repaint which still looks pretty good today. People who borrow now, say, don't worry we'll get a magnetic sign. That's when I tell them the body is fiberglass! Instead of tape or magnets, I tell them to tie strings to the sign and tie to the inside door handle/arm rests. Works great!

Hi Zack and fellow Hot Wheels owner! We have a friend who makes vinyl cling signs for our car club for parades. They go on easy on the sides where the doors are or on windows. We never have any problem with removing and no issues with them staying on. He even find out beforehand what dignitaries we will be caring in the convertibles and has the signs made for them, as I find more damage can be made by the cardboard ones the dignitaries bring happen, as the edges rub (especially one of the parades the dignitaries would hold the sign on the side of the car and they would keep moving them around!).

BTW the friend owns a business that sells printers, 3D printers, plotters, cad, etc. Definitely would refer him to anyone who is in need of some excellent heavy duty business equipment.
