I hate to break it to you, but I'm pretty sure sales taxes are still paid on leased cars. I had to do it once. Maybe every state is different, but I would double check. It may be a little less, but it is there.

Your not renting, your just agreeing to certain terms

I have a Harley Dyna and a BMW K1200S, but they're not recent purchases, and one will probably be leaving the nest to help with the Camaro purchase.

I already ballparked about $3500.00 to plate my Camaro, yours are better and probably close to the average on this thread. I read somewhere that government might provide some type of tax credit for new car purchases though it might be just for hybrids. I can't remember where? Anybody else heard that?

Oh well, just something to discuss while we're waiting, though for $3,500.00, I think they should provide on site grief counselors. And this was my first thread start on this site, a great moment in my humble life! And people responded!! Wow, I am one with the universe.

Aye you still have to pay sales tax no matter if you go though your bank or the dealer.

I guess I'm one of the lucky few. NC is 3% sales tax on cars so on a 2SS/RS that comes out to about $1,100. I'm think it's about another $200 here for tag and title.

South Carolina has a cap on sales tax, 300.00 and tag is 39.00 and that is it for 2009. Then property tax the next year probably 800.00 to 1000.00

I believe it is still 3% in VA plus personal property tax on a yearly basis, which is based on a prorated percentage of the value of the car.

Yeah, some states are lucky enough not to have personal property tax, but I also notice their gas prices are usually .20 - .30 cents higher at the pumps.
