I just finished a technical research article and part of that addressed the drop in performance of turbocharged cars at altitude (like Denver). You would think that it is exactly opposite or how a turbo engine should behave, but no, the turbos are so small that they can't handle the large pressure drop across the intake and still supply the volume of air needed to make HP, so torque and HP just take a nose dive after 3600 RPM or so.

Here's a picture (pictures since I can't orient it correctly) of the lap times from last season at their track and this test, oooff. It would be nice if they were able to run a CFTP gt500 and an a10 zl1 1le for reference.

Yea, but still a good showing for the ss 1le. Maybe it can't beat it on the same day or with stock OEM tires, but being in the ball park is respectable.

See how you folks conveniently not mention certain facts when it's beneficial to you? Both sides do it, so spare me. And as far as the SLE w/ Cup 2s being slightly quicker - different tire, different day. Plus, as they've said it's a tight track, so the lighter car is going to have a built in advantage. That said - there is nothing surprising here. The base GT500 has already been quicker than the mid engine Corvette Z51 on other tracks with same driver as well, so it can be said they run similar times. That said, the CFTP is significantly quicker than the base GT500 around a track.

Not only that, but the difference between the SS 1LE and the C8 was 50 ms, which could easily be within the error margin of their timing method (GPS? I didn't see a laser line the cars would've cut across).

But, my original point is still valid, typo or not. I find it hilarious that the GT500 non-CFTP lapped in front of the PP2 but behind the SS1LE. Now we know why the PP2 didn't come with coolers. I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO want the Throttle House guys to test the Mach1 with it's optional handling package against a non-CFTP GT500 on that track! The Mach1 might win... |
