Drove it to work today. Suppose to have 50% chance of storms daily up to and through the weekend.

I got the car on the freeway and got it up to speed and the scoop vibration is really non-existent and will be a non-issue for me. That said, get the dimple removed by PDR and maybe a slight adjustment to have it go back toward the windshield a smidgen and I think I’ll be golden.

I'm honestly surprised that the hood scoop doesn't move. Mine vibrates around constantly.

I wonder if the rivets might have something to do with it? I know they were using a rivet that had a plastic piece affixed to it, so was actually inside the hole and spread, almost acting as insulation to the aluminum stud. The had to drill a couple out because they didn't catch and the plastic piece was a bear to free up but they got it out.
My buddy who did my car in the Trinity SB3 ceramic coating will coat this hood when I give him a call. I have the balance of the kit from the initial application which will be more than enough to do this hood.

Nice. My cowl doesn't vibrate as a whole--prolly should have been more specific about that. It's just the back side of it. I've thought about getting some piece to brace it in there so that it'll help keep it still during driving. I just haven't gotten around to messing with that as of yet.

Yeah I bet if you took a 1/4” wide piece of aluminum and bent it to shape for the underside of the cowl and secure it by the mount points on each side. One thing I’d suggest is bead of latex underneath to prevent any rattle

New AA ZL1 hood

So after getting the dimple removed via PDR at the shop a week ago and I told them to check the adjustment or alignment of the hood, I’m happy to report that the gaps are equal and that ever so slight push back toward the windshield made all the difference in the world. When the hood is released it pops up as did the OE hood and now I can have it about a foot from close and a slight push down it latches like OE.

The wife hopes I’m done cause she wants no more body parts in the basement and thank God the shops storing the OE hood for the 6-12 months to ensure I’m keeping things as they currently are.

Ordered the AA ZL1 Hood

Took the plunge and ordered the AA ZL1 style hood yesterday. Got an email it shipped. Smoked CTR piece is the only one available, no gloss black, which is really what I wanted. Buying the hood, having it painted and installed by a custom body shop is a bit of an expense so I hope this turns out well. Spoke to a few people and read everything I could find on the net about this one, some good, some not so good, overall it looked doable.

I ordered the hood through Matt at Wildhammer Motorsports, super guy. Anytime I purchase something for my Camaro I look at Wildhammer first, really like supporting the small business guy over big box if it's affordable.

Will post pics before and after when it's all said and done for all to share.

does it offer any more clearance than a Zl1 hood seeing how the insert on the oem carbon part has stand offs to hold a cover?

I need more clearance!

The hoods are on sale at American Authority for $999 with free shipping. I was told at the time I ordered mine there was only two left.

The hood arrived from FEDEX 16 Dec at the bodyshop I selected, Hills Paint and Body, Saginaw TX. The box was badly damaged by FEDEX, one corner was almost destroyed. Upon opening much to our surprise there was no damage from shipping. Further examination of the hood showed multiple areas on the leading edge and other areas to have mold flaws. Overall not too bad, but none the less, flaws. Really? A brand new hood and I have to have it repaired. Can't a manufacture make something right anymore? The shop has estimated approx. $200-250 to repair/rework the defects.

It'll be mid Jan 2020 when the shop can start the work for paint and install. Pictures to follow around that time.
