Or just maybe with all that paradigm shift talk Al was subtly hinting about a LT5 Z/28...

There are some truly amazing cars being produced and on the drawing board. Gentlemen, It's a great time to be alive. Aside of the missile threats and tsunami warnings, but that's a story for another day.

When a corporate rep, or Chief Engineer, says wouldn’t it be nice to see Sub 7 sec times, it’s been done and they know it. Not going to throw that out there and not be able to back it up.
BTW my last Trip to Yuma (YPG), Ealry Dec, heard some interesting, high Reving testing going on at the test track.

7:16 (official), 7:13 (claimed off-record) lap times are already ridiculous and hard to believe. The mere concept of a sub 7-minute lap time actually fries my brain a little bit. |

Never thought I would see an LT4 with a Camaro badge...seeing GM drop an LT5 produced from an assembly line is pretty easy to visualize. Gotta love the possibilities.

LT5, strip out all those ZL1 convenience items for weight reduction
7-speed manual Ceramic brakes Could be hints of Z28... .

The LT5 is nearly 100 more horses than the LT4, with an incredible torque band. Pull some weight here, reinforce there, some big stopping power, and some Krazy Glue tires, the Z1le might get there. Either way, for all of us guessing what direction they're going with the Z/28, here's your answer. It's going to be another low production Halo car with only one purpose in life, to run the ring in under 7 minutes. |

Is it possible they might go with a NA LT-7 or a LT-6? I think that is something they might have up their sleeve.

The LT7 is twin turbo. However, The GM authority report is a very early one that sites the use of Dual injection and a 5.5 Liter V8. The analytic reports from the latter part of 2017 all say that a 5.5 Liter V8 would be used in the Mid-Engine Vette, and no use of dual injection was publically known until the LT5 debuted. The source of that LT6 rumor knows something that we don't.

I don’t buy a 5.5 L n/a small block that can make 700 hp. Look at how much Ford struggled just to get 526, with the 5.2.
There is no engine for the Z/28 and there won’t be. That was set when Corvette decided to go supercharged with everything.

I think we need to wait and see how deep under 7min the ZR1 will go (it will ABSOLUTELY be under 7min, probably under 6:50) before we get our hopes up about a sub 7 Camaro. Would an LT5 powered ZL1 1LE with Carbon Ceramic brakes be able to break the 7min mark? Definitely, but would Chevy put the LT5 in the Camaro is the big question there.... I think a more interesting option and maybe even more likely is a stripped out, 600ish HP Camaro with DSSVs and way more Aero that weighs around 200lbs less than a ZL1 1LE (even lighter if possible but that may be stretching the realm of possibility).
For the ZR1 Chevy took the more power + more Aero route, with the downside of some gained weight. I think the less weight + more Aero approach with slightly less power could get similar results with the Camaro.

Idk about that.... we have seen the leaked CAD images of the TT V8 for the Mid-engine Vette and what appears to be an N/A V8 as well, so who's to say that engine can't make it's way to a Z/28?!? I too really doubt the possibility of a 700 HP 5.5L, but don't you think it is possible for around 600HP from a Dual-injection LT? Chevy went that route for the LT5 so there's probably about a 99% the rest of these new engines will also be Dual-injected.

And if anyone brings up the Mercury Marine 7.0L that engine won't pass emissions in it's current set up. So they would have to dial it back. How much they would have to dial it back is unknown, but if they dial back enough does it still have an advantage over the LT4 or LT5? Quote:
