NAV Traffic

Hi all,

Just noticed my Traffic Info stopped working. I bought a pre-owned 2018 ZL1 A10 3 months ago. Is the Traffic Info thing linked to XM Radio or something like that ?

Thanx for any information

Did you have a complimentary on-star subscription that just ran out?

Yes, it's linked to your SiriusXM subscription. You can add it back online for $2-$4 per month if you find it useful enough.

I find Google Maps and WAZE much more accurate for traffic conditions and alternative routes.

Google maps via Android Auto is much better for traffic and navigation, especially now that they have speed limit signs on your route as well as speed trap info from Waze.

I'll switch the minute Android Auto starts working via bluetooth and when nav info, but at least directions and speed limits via Google Maps, are integrated into the dash and the HUD.

I do have Waze but hardly ever use it, I don't want to fiddle with the phone and the USB cable, then keep looking back and forth between the screen and the road.

Just throwing this in as an alternative viewpoint

all navigation software has voice prompts so you dont have to keep looking at screens and the road if that's too difficult for you.

Android auto does work via bluetooth... though I think you mean fully wireless. AA does this as well already but hasn't been implemented in the release version of any implementation of head units. You can enable fully wireless android auto if you're using android head units and enable developer mode. It works mostly the same, but will destroy your cell phone battery as it requires active wifi (blue tooth is too slow) and it keeps the phone from going to sleep the entire time it's in use. So similar to the battery life you'd get if you were playing a high cpu using game.

It seems like you're really after having HUD integration, since plugging your phone in is hardly a hassle. That's probably well beyond the scope of display mirror'ing functionality like AA and Carplay offer. It's not like the car's headunit knows anything about the content of what's displayed on the screen since it's just a video feed. It would only be able to get data via bluetooth and that would require a whole api level that is app-type-specific. I dont see that happening considering how few cars use HUD's.

Most people would weigh the usefulness of the hud and the cost of the factory system vs the conveniences and functionality offered by your cell phone and just use the cell phone. But if you're hell bent on the hud, then you have no other option.

Bluetooth will not work ever with AA instead of using a USB cable.

I appreciate your thoughts cellsafemode, I did consider these and went back and forth. Indeed when I say wireless, I mean no USB cable at all. Theoretically speaking (because the factory head unit doesn't support wireless AA), battery life wouldn't be the problem, I put the phone on the charging pad, so if it's able to squeeze enough juice out of the pad not to lose charge while running these apps, it's good enough.

Voice prompts aren't sufficient for me---when I'm in an unknown or unfamiliar area, I want to see the shrinking distance before the next turn, especially with dense traffic in tricky highway junctions where there are 2-3 different exits within a few hundred feet of each other. Both the cluster and the HUD show this clearly with the factory nav, and I can follow those continuously without staring at the screen.

Speed limit integration is a nice perk, although that I could live without of course. Google Maps is arguably better than the factory mapping system, but the difference isn't big enough to sway me and make me give up the cluster + HUD integration.

Cell phones aren't convenient to me at all, most software isn't intuitive and I hate squiggly cables in my space (there are none right now, I have the dash cams and the radar detector hardwired), plus the center console is unfortunately pretty awkward to handle. I guess subconsciously I'm still missing my old blackberry, whose SW was basically an extension of my mind.

So anyway, I didn't mean to try and convince you or anyone about me being "right", just showing my line of thinking . I understand why the majority prefer Waze and Google Maps and they couldn't care less about the USB cord.

I would love some type of "wireless" AA option, I hate cables as well. I only use AA for navigation purposes when I need it, otherwise my USB cable stays in the glove box. Unfortunately I doubt we will see it anytime soon, but it may be possible over wi-fi direct, don't know how it would work though with Onstar in the mix.
