More aggressive gearing

Are there any options out there for changing the gearing or final drive on the M6 SS to make the gears a little shorter?

Is the final drive of the SS and the SS 1LE identical?

I don't think there are any gear options for the 6th gen.

I've read a number of threads about this and no one to date has found an aftermarket rear gear available.

I believe the rear gear ratio for the SS and SS 1LE is the same: 3.73

Sure, but it takes a 6k geforce 9" swap to do it...then you will have lots of gear options.

Maybe consider going to a shorter wheel/tire combo to effectively get you the more aggressive / shorter gearing. It doesn't appear to be cost effective otherwise.

They must have had a price increase. $7100-$7500 now.

Has anyone swapped the rear gears out of a 6 speed car into an automatic car and got rid of the 2.77 gears? I know back in the 80's 5.7 Iroc's could be had with 2.77 or 3.23 gears and those cars were night and day differences in relation to performance.

Snowblind did this with his NA 9 second A8 SS a long time ago. Not sure he is still running this.

No one is running now anyway. :(

I am so wondering what my stock M6 LT1 will do with tires. Are high 11s possible? My Dragstars sit waiting for the falll........

It's not just a gear swap you have to swap the entire diff because the ring gear is welded and not removable...but yes it has been done. Dan Hacker is running a 3.73 M6 diff in his A8 car.

Not surprised...everything keeps going up in cost.

I did this and LOVE IT!.

I have a 16 RS automatic. About 2 years ago I picked up a 2017 2.0T manual dif and axles from a salvage yard in LA ($700). The Manual 2.0 has a 3.23 gear ratio as well as a limited-slip diff. I can also tell you the 2.0 axles are WAY beefier than the v6 stocks were. It's a direct swap and I did a Trifecta tune at the same time having them adjust for the ratio change.

Night and day difference. I have a throttle controller in the car which was a god patch to the low-end throttle hole but nothing like this gear change did. Like a duck to water, the v6 was born for this swap. Thinking there would be a trade I was happy to find I lost no top end with that A8, just all low end all day and all at 19mpg.

Car kicks ass! $20k.. and I get 20mpg with my foot in it, everywhere I go!.... Say somethin about V6's now...

I'd like to thank everyone for all the fast and good replies. It sounds to me like I'm not the only one who thinks the gearing ratio for the 6-speed manual is a little on the tall side.

I was hoping it was possible to change out the diff gears, as that would probably be the cheapest option. Too bad they are not replaceable.
