Hmm...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if regular car shampoo/soap cannot remove similar embedded particles from clearcoated body/paint, wouldn't the same apply to clearcoated wheels as well?

Take these wheels for example, I really doubt regular car shampoo can get rid of these yellow/contaminated brake dust areas, even with agitation using a regular car shampoo..

Personally, I feel one does have to use a strong cleaner atleast every 3-6 months. Regular car shampoo can then be used in between..

Thoughts?

If your wheels look like that, it's because you haven't been maintaining them properly. In that case, yeah, you'll need a stronger cleaner. Something like sonax or adams new wheel cleaner.

If you wash the wheels with soap and water every time you wash the car you'll almost never need a strong wheel cleaner.

Agreed!

You can also use claybar on them. Always follow up with a quality wax. This will make washing them easier too. The brake dust will not stick as well.
