Why?

I'm sorry if this is a re-post but can anyone tell me why the ZL1 is only going to be limit production?

I know that was for last MY. For MY13,as whats been stated previously, they will build to demand, no limit on production since they have a full model year to build. If your getting that from a dealership or salesman that there is a limited production, they are misinformed. What makes it complicated is the allocation system, which makes it appear they are limited, especially when certain dealerships receive more allocations than others based on sales volume.

From what I recall, Oshawa is able to produce about 300-400 ZL1's a week. If you exclude shutdown periods(not sure how many, I estimate about 4 weeks), on a conservative estimate that would be 14,400 ZL1's that Oshawa is capable of producing in one year. Far from limited production. I know the plant has the potential to roll a car off the assembly line one every minute and that is with the other cars that they build there.

From what I saw over in the order tracking thread, we're already at a VIN in the 11000s

Maybe for MY2013 Cars total but definitely not for sequentially numbered ZL1's.

By the end of this week, I'll be suprised if they have reached 1000 MY2013 ZL1's since June 11, 2012.

ZL1 is not limited in the true sense. They will produce what demand is. 2012 was just a really short run because ZL1 came on line very late in the model year.

THIS +100 Why would GM want to make 500,000 of these cars just to have them sit on lots unsold? Not everybody can afford a $60k car.

Because it's not! Only limts are demand and possibly supplier parts limits. I think GM has intentions of building all of them that they can sell. If you want one, order it. I'll bet you get it.

The limit is part availibily. As someone who has been waiting since nov 15 2011 with a deposite down I would say this car is limited production so far.

2012 was limited and they did not even meet the intial forcast. 2013 is not supposed to be limited but they just finally cleared the 2012 backlog.

It will be intereting to see when this car turns ito say a grand sport where if you want one you just order one.

Right now that is not tha case. they will let you order it but flip a coin as to how mnay months it will take to show up. I think it is allparts availibility right nows. It hink GT500 will outpace ZL1 production if they dont' really ramp up soon.

The ZL1's are production limited, not limited production.

they are not limiting production in order to make it a limited number of cars made, they are making as many of them as demands warrant.

The MY2012 only 1885 retail sales cars (not counting CTF's, etc) were mad only because of the short model year and the extended QC hold.

If they have a demand for say 10,000 MY2013's, and the production line can keep up, then that's how many they'll make.

This I will "respectfully disagree" with. The ZL1 remains in limited production. Hear me out, If Chevrolet would make as many cars that were "ordered"?, They would still not have ZL1's in "limited Supply". Dealers are not just taking orders for the ZL1. No matter how many requests you may have, each dealer is still only alloted so many cars, (numbers) in this model year. Soooo, Am I wrong? This is not a gotcha question in any way form or otherwise. Just to my knowlege it's still limited production. Tell me where I'm wrong. Again, NOT SARCASTIC IN ANY WAY!!

Also, The Vin's REMAIN sequential for the ZL1.

The ZL1 is limited in a sense by the low dealer allocations. ADM by certain dealers lowers sales, potentially keeping their future allocations down. On the whole, you just don't see one sitting around a dealership. I don't forsee the production levels changing much anytime soon, the ADM's will eventually subside. Seasonal build convertibles will be made in competition with coupes. One will wait in a que for the other depending on the production schedule. There is still a back log of undelivered orders. It is a higher end vehicle for sure, but by what I have read it seems there is still far more demand than supply. The advertising and media exposure has just begun to get the word out to the consumer at large. I think in the end it will not carry over to the anticipated MY '15 Gen 6 model change due to CAFE and the nature of it speciality. So, as the saying goes.... get 'em while their hot. Just my .02....
