But youre interest rate will be higher. Id expect it to be around 12% if not higher. Or perhaps he's right and under 18 you NEED a cosigner.
That's gonna depend on the financing bank. Some dont work that way and besides he is gonna need a cosigner anyway, because he is underage. I'd wait if it was me. That 98 camaro can still be a wicked machine and isn't hindered by some of the issues that this car still has...

If you're looking at a new 1LT/RS you can get a used SS for the same money. Just sayin

Exactly.

Or just mod your current car and take little Suzy out to dinner Friday night also. New cars are cool and all but there better when you can afford them.

Somehow I highly doubt his mom will want to pay for the insurance for a 16 year old to drive an SS.

I'd be looking used regardless; will save you some money.

I would actually consider leasing. I've leased my first two cars (2nd being the Camaro). All I had to do was get a job and in 3 years I leased my first car. Still working and 3 years later (last month) I leased my Camaro.

I'm probably one of the few who started with alot of muscle for a 1st vehicle.. At 16
I started with a 1956 Ford F100 truck.. Had a Boss 302, attached to a very capable C4 Auto.. 4.11 Posi Rear.. 295-50-15's.. You get the picture... Truck COULD NOT keep the rear tires under it.. NO PS>> NO P. Brakes...
Believe it or not.. I NEVER received a moving violation in that truck..!!
But I got every other ticket as I was targeted.. Small town.. Kid.. Fast Truck!!!
Blue dots.. Too low... Too loud.. eyelids.. license plate covers.. You name it..
Nothing that EVERY OTHER HOT RODDER HAD!!! But since I was 16.. I got them all..
Enough ranting..
Bottom line is.. As responsible as you may be.. There are alot of other costs that come along far beyond payment & insurance..
I worked close to full time from my Sophomore year on in HS & I often look back & wish I had gone another path.. Not that I have not been successful.. But might have gotten there quicker &/or easier..

Yes.. It's nice to have a newer, flashy car to get the attention at school.. but I had alot more fun driving other cars that blended in a little more..

<rant over>

Most 15/16 year olds that drive new Camaros had their cars given to them, or their parents are footing the bill, or only requiring their kids to pay part of the cost if/when they have income from a job. If they "saved up" $25k, that was likely given to them as well. This allure of first-year drivers having brand new cars--it's quite unreal! Most kids who have that are living in fantasyland.

The obvious answer here is save for 7 years, and then pay cash for a 7 year old 2012 Camaro LS . There's a chance you won't have enough money for an expensive car when you're 23, either.
I had a "new to me" 2 year old convertible 95 Z28 when I turned 16 and I wouldn't trade that experience for the world! It made my high school years 100 times more awesome! I was one of the rare cases where I paid for it and all costs 100% myself although it was in my dad's name.

You don't want to waste money modding a V6 Camaro, especially a 98.

Have you thought about a 4th gen Z28 with either an LT1 or LS1?

Let's assume that '95 Z28 was still worth $16,000-$18,000 when it was 2 years old.

How did you pay for it when you were 16?
