I heard that the front fender 'chicklets' will distinguish the 'limited edition' early production models with the later 'chicklet-less', backup sensor 'unlimited edition' late models and would simply be a matter of the extra limited edition value rather than any function...:

They were actually called "The Mark of Excellance" and were dropped as a cost cutting measure. Installed right behind the front wheel on the lower front fender on both sides.

Yes, but the last post on that thread was a month old (and didn't mention their discontinuation) and I posted mine before people began replying to the old one today.
