bumper remover
Good morning,
I have to strip certain parts of the bumper without abrasive. Is there a stripper that can remove varnish and paint without damaging polypropylene? I thank you in advance.

WD-40 will work if the paint isn't too old 'a couple days'. also, oven cleaner but then again is all up to how long the stuff sat before. Crome cleaner works but a lot of rubbing goes on. good luck

You will need to remove most, if not all, of the clear coat by (rubber) block wet sanding with 400-600. Advise against chemical stripping. Then make your repair, feather sand/blend followed by a sealer product from DuPont, PPG or other supplier. Shoot the entire bumper- just enough to cover. Shoot all with quality basecoat/clear coat (with flex additive) in a booth or dust free garage with at least a wet floor to hold down the dust. It's also advisable to remove the bumper an 1/8" to 3/16" from the body in order to omit tape edges.
If you can afford it, go to a reputable body shop because the repair takes expertise and quality equipment( compressor, gun, mask). And most important- two part catalyzed finishes can cause permanent lung damage ! |
