Tire replacement recommendation

I unfortunately hit a nail and need to replace the whole tire because it’s on the side of the tire. I’m at about 5600 miles. The dealer said replacing the one back tire should be fine but I’m wondering if I should be really replacing both. I would prefer to only replace one but want to know if I’m going to run into any potential issues?

I have fidelity roadside hazard package as well, but I’m not sure they would cover 2. Tires are stock Camaro 1SS Goodyear tires.

It all depends on how much tread is left on the other tire.

YOu should replace in pairs but sometimes budget is a factor, it can be done but it's just not advised. As noted if the other is like 20K miles on it, you need to replace both. but if you say it's 5600 miles you might be OK. Having in effect a different diameter on one end of the axle could make traction control and such go haywire as wheel speed sensors detect one that is faster, or slower, than the other.

On an SS, I would replace both with that kind of mileage. The stock tires don't last that long so the difference in tread would be enough for me to do both.

The service guy reassured me the treads were fine and both don’t need to be replaced so I’ll just go by his word. Ideally yeah I agree on doing two but if I can save the extra money I’ll just do one for now. This nail just happened a couple days after I had a full alignment done too.

Be very careful in inclement weather to avoid hydroplaning and spinning out. The stock Goodyears are very weak in the rain as-is, and now you also have a significant tread depth difference between left and right.

What tires would you recommend in the future? I’m living in Florida.

I'm gonna be very predictable : Michelin Pilot Sport 4S or Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02. Both have excellent dry traction, low noise and phenomenal wet performance, which you'll appreciate in those flash downpours.

Yes, these are expensive, but they are also the only thing between your car and the road surface. I don't skimp on tires and brakes, because I want to make it home in the end.

(Still remember the rainstorm back after buying the car when I presented laughing Prius and CR-V drivers with the "drive of shame" at 30-35 mph in the right lane, with the hazards on, having to white knuckle the steering wheel, because both the front and the rear Goodyears were walking randomly in even the smallest of puddles. Needless to say, the Goodyears were gone a few days later.)

I just got the Continental Extreme Contact, and they feel much better than the OEM Eagle Run-Flats. I'm happy with the Conti's

All fixed but they ended up putting chrome looking silver wheel weights on my black rims.

I went back and asked to use black and they said they don’t do that and just use what GM recommends.

It’s not too bad though, only really noticeable when the weights are towards the ground side when parked.

If they "just used what GM recommends" wouldn't the new weights match the weights installed at the factory on your other 3 wheels?
