Jack pad options

I've searched and found the one from ZL1 add ons but $65 + 11 to ship for something Ill likely use maybe twice a year doesn't seem like such a good deal. Ive also seen the cheaper ones from Amazon but not sure which one to get or if it matters. Thanks

I just made a set out of some scrap 2x4 cut off pieces. Cut them about 2 1/2 inches long, and cut a grove right up the center with a table saw to fit over the pinch weld. Work perfect.

Just remember, when you cheap out there is that chance for failure .Price out rocker panel repair. Might change your mind.

Wood will eventually split and could cause damage. Remember with the ZL1 add one, these can be used on a lot of cars nowadays and will last forever.

I agree. But if you must do it on the cheap, cut the groove perpendicular to the grain. A better choice would be a laminated 2x4 or 2x header product cut down to size. Maybe some friends in construction can hook you up.

I successfully jacked my car up on the pinch welds using a regular floor jack without any issues. I just lined up the pinch welds in between slits on the jack. You just have to be cautious and careful

My concern is how do tire shops lift the car without these adapters? Do they have special pads on the 4 point lift or will they destroy the rockers?

It’s less critical with a 4 point lift because the weight is spread around. It’s more for when you’re jacking one side of the car.

If you jack a Camaro on the left or right you’ll notice the whole side of the car starts to lift because the body is so rigid. That’s the reason for the pinch weld adapters.

I’ve got ZL1 pads and have used them quite a bit for everything from oil changes to grille installs. To me, one use makes them worth every penny.

If you use the right kind of wood and do the job right, the wood one will last forever (or at least the life of the car) as well.

Exactly. I don't see how it could fail. The groove is cut deeper than the pinch weld, so the weight is on the thickest part of the wood. Even if it somehow split inside the cut, it's not like it could go anywhere with the jack pat still supporting everything.

Use POM (Polyoxymethylene) it is a high-performance engineering component.

I just use a chunk of steel with a groove cut in with a cut off wheel.
