2019 SS A10, how is it?
Dying to hear! When shifting manually, is the A10 more responsive than the A8? It feels like it's an eternity from flipping the paddle and anything actually happening with the A8 in my 2016. Anyone gone from a 2016-2018 A8 to a 2019 A10 to be able to directly compare?

The two areas I've noticed is that if you click the shifter as fast as you can to lets say run from 5th to 9th, the RPMs don't keep up. The other issus is when youre coming to a stop, it is near impossible to down shift, brake and still come to a smooth stop. Its either me or the car, but it is difficult to come to a smooth stop in manual shift mode. Automatic mode is incredible. No hunting for gears, silky smooth, and fast as I could have hoped for.

I like the A10, I rode in a new Ford Raptor with it and as said that transmission in auto more and sport mode shifts really well. In the Raptor it will dang near bark the tires on a WOT upshift. The A8 is easily fixed, I adjusted the shift times on the A8 that is in my 2016 Sierra. Shifts are now more firm and alot quicker than before, the feeling of the transmission hunting on downshifts is completely gone now. A tune will do wonders for the A8 transmission.

So the question begs, is the car quicker with the a10?

If both the A8 and the A10 are shifting correctly with a car with the same engine and rear end ratio, then yes the A10 will be quicker as it keeps the engine in the meat of the powerband.

Where are the damn CarAndDriver reviews? Dying to see how YouTube reviewers compare the two transmissions.

I read on here awhile back about jerky behavior when trying to downshift when coming to a stop and a tip was given to just downshift to 3rd, and let the car automatically downshift the rest of the way to 1st. Been doing that ever since and haven't had anymore issues.

Keep playing with it & you will learn the sweet spot for smoother manual downshifts...it gets trickier the more abrupt the stops are from speed & finding the window with the rpm being the key. It's really the same with acceleration & for mine, it either got smoother as it got more miles or I got better at it??
One thing to try is while keeping it in manual & slowing down, let the car down shift on its own & see if you can get a feel & mimic the timing...I've just learned to do it by trial & error but thinking it may give a starting point or reference. Not that it matters but I personally never use the paddles & prefer using the knob. I also tend to enjoy the subtle burps & play with slightly aggressive shifts too. Maybe I'm all wet & each power plant / A10 programming varies, but can't imagine them being all that different in regards to finding said smoothness for both spirited & DD?? Good luck, but I don't ever expect to be as good as the computer. |
