A8 Drivers: Tips for Saving Gas
For Those who are interested in saving gas only.
I have been commuting daily and the display has been set on showing the mpg for last 50 miles. So far my best is 34.3 , regularly around 30. 1- Use touring mode 2- Accelerate slowly. So many drivers stupidly race on the green only to stop at the next red, where I catch up with them. Quick acceleration is probably the number one gas guzzler. 3- Brake early. The smoother you come to a stop the better. 4- Help your transmission to shift earlier I do this quite often. Put the display on fuel economy and watch. When you first get on the highway and When you get to the speed you want, very very gradually and slowly ease the pressure of your foot on the gas pedal and you will see the fuel economy suddenly jumps up. You wont feel the shift probably but that's what just happened. When the tranny shifts, the lower rpm gives you better gas mileage. After the shift happens, you can apply pressure again, slowly, the car will stay on the same gear. 5- Be a weight fascist. Carry only what you need. On my other camaro, I have removed the convertible top and carry no spares. That's it for now, add your own if have any |

I'm getting 27 mpg doing 75 in morning and 71 going home on my 75 mile commute Monday-Thursday. Comparable to my impala, so good enough for me lol. Friday is about 21 lmao.
This thing is excellent on gas. You should also add little to no use of the paddles, especially in the city. I shift it like a manual when using them to hear the gargles in the NPP exhaust and my mileage is terrible. |

Yup Bluin, shifting is fun too. One of the reasons I got the A8, best of both worlds.
I am yet to use the paddles though, I use the stick to shift. It just feels better. |

I'll have to tinker around and see if I can hit 30. I average around 23 but I have quite a bit of stop and go from lights before I hit the highway.

When I had my '16 A8/2SS, on summer gas 27-28 daily driving and up to 30 on long highway trips....on winter gas it dropped to about 24-25, and if conditions were right 26.....Just drove it normally, never ever had it in tour mode, always in sport but had fuse pulled to keep NPP open all the time.

flattish roads and cruise control set to around 70, allowing the engine to drop to 4 cylinders... you can get great mileage on a v8 or a v6. Not sure what the i4 gets.
Not a new thing for the camaro though. You could hit 30+ on highways with a v8 from the 3rd gen up (not sure about 5th gen). For the auto's anyway. The main difference is that you can do that now and have 400hp at your disposal. So the oxymoron is fairly non-existent. you can have your power and your mileage/efficiency. |

Well said. Except the oxymoron do exist. GM creates technology to make the engines more efficient, thus V4, and displays your mileage efficiency for you so you can make the best of it. This thread is for those who are interested in saving gas, first thing I said, so people know what to expect. |

Some A8 torque converter failures in Corvettes. Mostly Stingrays not Zs. Theory is that the Z goes from V8 to V4 much less and that V8>V4 change is what is hard on the converter. I always have the A8 in M so it never goes in V4. But then again I am getting 12-13.5 mpg, which is a little less than 30 mpg. Makes me think about the 2SS rather than the ZL1. How much HP do you really need?
