Hit and run in parking lot

I found this gem this morning. It had to have happened at least a few days ago. I probably didn't notice because it's on the side I don't see regularly at the house, it's been dark and raining all week, and I've barely driven her.

My question is what am I looking at for repair costs? I cleaned up the paint on the fender dent (after this pic) and it's looking nice now so I'm thinking just some PDR on that. As you can see though, the paint on the top of the bumper was scraped off. Would they need to repaint the whole thing or just do some type of blending? The whole bumper could use a respray (nicks here and there).

From my experience any kind of dent along a body line crease is never an easy, quick or cheap fix.

The price can vary a bit depending on location. I would guess a good $5-700 for the respray of the two panels...that is IF nothing has to be replaced.

PDR will not work for that, being on a body line it will need to be repaired and painted... PDR works for hail dents, door dents and the such, not crushed body lines...

Just sort of guessing as I think through it...

- You might be able to get the dent removed via PDR. Maybe $150-$200 for that if it can be done?

- The bumper will need to be removed, both panels will need to be sprayed and blended in the damage areas and then both panels will have to be fully cleared. My guess for this is around $500-$600, maybe a little more depending on the shop and whether you go through insurance (and whether they may work for cash).

There's no blending if there's not enough paint left in the damaged area. You have to have something to blend into.

That looks like primer on the top of your bumper cover, where it meets the fender. If that's the case, the paint is shot on that panel. Try polishing on the fender dent, and inspect it to see if that's just scuffing or if there is more going on. Assuming PDR is possible on that, you might be able to salvage it for the most part and just live with those deeper scratches if you soften them up a bit.

My guess is at least $800 (minimum) if you just need paintwork. At least $1500 if body panels need replacing.

The blend would be into the paint on the non-damaged area, though. I just had a front bumper cover touched up where there was a large area that had to be sanded and filled (meaning it went down to just the bumper material, no paint of any kind), and then the paint was blended back into the rest of the panel. The whole panel had to be cleared afterward and you really can't tell anything was done to it at all in the area that was repaired.

I'm with you on the cost estimates...
