I bought my 18 2.0T because I know inevitably that small displacement FI DI /Hybrid is the future.
I have only owned V8 vehicles before buying this car. I wanted to get a head start on understanding the potential, and pushing limits. I honestly expected to break a Major component long ago, surprisingly at this point, I have not. With 4 bolt-ons, and a tune, I do this or better on the stock, 245' Goodyear run flats, and appropriate fuel on the streets....Car is VERY nimble on lightweight wheels, and can shift Very quickly with the A8 tuned..

Bought mine assuming it was a V6 (Didn't know the I4 turbo even existed) as cars.com didn't list what engine it had. Didn't even realize it was an I4 turbo until I read the manual the next day. When I found out I was just like, "Huh, interesting".

Thats hilarious, and worked out well! So far I've been very happy with mine. I'll eventually have similar mods to you too.

I have a 2018. Very fast 4 banger. But I love getting 875km per tank.

I had sort of an opposite experience. I was quoted a price on a certain I4, and was in the middle of doing the paperwork when the salesman screwed up, and realized the car was already sold. Long story short, they found a V6 (same color, same options, etc) and gave me that for the same price as the I4. So basically the $1500 upgrade for the V6 was free for me.

As an SS guy, I'm almost envious of you as I've recently learned your cars weigh 400lbs less. And that's 400lbs in the front, so no traction penalty, simply easy BRZ-like nose movement. I've seen people push these engines to 600+ WHP with a flat 450+ WTQ curve, which is insane for a car this light. So there's amazing performance potential to be had. At a cheaper entry cost, and it looks like your parts are cheaper than SS parts too.

Of course there are a few drawbacks; no A10 available is the biggest killer for me. You have to install an LSD, which shouldn't be an issue. Upgraded internals; of course us SS guys have to deal with that too if chasing real power. Still, these are crazy capable little things. If there was an A10 option I would actually be very tempted to get one.

I hear in the next generation of Camaros, the 2.0T may become either a 2.7T, or a 2.0T with hybrid electric system. If so that will probably be the performance engine of my choice over the V8, as crazy as it is to say

I purchased the 2.0T over the V6 for four reasons.

1) turbo is the future

2) fuel economy

3) after test driving both, I was more impressed with the 2.0T over the V6.

4) upgrades. I like to tinker and there just seems to be more bolt on options that are less expensive on the 2.0T

No, hybrid and EV is the future.

Also, I would be curious how much gas money you pay compared to the 3.6 because 2.0T needs 93 octane for its rated power while the 3.6 only needs 87 octane. EPA actually shows the 2.0T is more expensive to fuel up. I have heard that if you feed SS 87 gas, it's worse on gas. Not sure how 2.0T reacts to 87 octane.

They're kinda both the future. If Camaros survive in to gen 7, we'll probably see a 2.0T with a hybrid electric motor. This is going to become increasingly common on performance cars

I disagree about Hybrid and EV. The US electric infrastructure cannot support EV's in mass scale. And money drives everything so a grid upgrade is not overly likely in the near future. Combustion engines will remain viable and the turbo will be the future of performance engines. But again, just my opinion.

As far as fuel, in my area 93 is only $0.20 per gallon more than 87. So I am spending $3.80 per tank more for 93 than 87. I am actually getting close to the advertised fuel economy as I get close to 29 to 30 MPG on a tank and advertised is 31. When I drove the V6 for the weekend test drive, I only got 24 to 25 where the advertised is 28. So overall I am spending a bit less on fuel. Of course the 93 will be negated when I do the Flex Fuel update and I will be spending less per gallon than 87 just not sure the affect on fuel mileage.
