please tell me the AC delco part number for the trans fluid for 6speed 1le!
There seems to be confusion over the correct transmission fluid for our 6 speed tremec car. I called the dealership, and he told me 2 different possible part numbers. I looked at royal purple, they show that it could be the syncromax ATF fluid that conforms to warranty, or it can take another fluid that is specific for a manual transmission. It says that the latter fluid is for "performance upgrade". So, please tell me....what is the AC delco part number for our transmission fluid? And what royal purple fluid should I put in the car? I don't care about the warranty.

OP, the stock fluid is great stuff, just keep it changed as the maintenance schedule states. |

The reason you want to avoid a DexIV fluid is because GM required DexIV to have detergents in it to help prevent glazing on clutch packs. Great in a auto trans, HOWEVER, most Tremec transmissions use plastic / composite pads on the shift forks. This design is a good one, however the detergents can make the plastic swell, which will cause them to wear fast.
Hence the recommendation by GM to use DexIII. This is a non-synthetic ATF, however it does not have the detergent. Its the best fluid GM has for it. I was referred to use Syncromax by a friend of mine who works at GM at the Prooving Grounds in Millford. It is a full synthetic lube (its almost like water), however it does not have the detergents that a DexIV approved fluid. This is what I used - it shifts substantially better IMO https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 |

The stock fluid is junk, honestly. After swapping to Amsoil, the difference in shifting was immediate and I am very happy I did it. Trans temps stay well below "hot" at track events, as well.

I also agree that the stock fluid is terrible, when the temps drop the shift effort while cold is very heavy and notchy. I changed to the RP ATF and it improved performance all around but after a season of track days I changed to Amsoil Torque Drive. It's a synthetic fluid designed to operate in place of the Dex 3H fluid spec and not the Dex IV spec. Just my .02
