Block gasket surface clean enough?
I've been trying to clean the head gasket mating surface on my block for an hour now, heads are already pretty clean.
I'm looking to put the heads back on right now. Can somebody please give me an opinion if this is clean enough, or should i put another hour in? https://imgur.com/gallery/Oltdwb7 |

No LS experience but plenty of engine experience. I have never assembled one that looked like that. I always had them much cleaner. I put paper towels in the cylinders and run a fine stone in them with oil.

Okay i cleaned them for another hour. the shadows in that picture made it look much worse than what it was.
Theyre not spotless, but im fairly confident with what i have now. |

Yeah they should look like Gordos.
No air tools? You can use a scrubby pad. Lots of finger pressure. Should be able to clean up in an hour or less. |

When in doubt, keep at it. It is better to overkill than the opposite.

Still a little residue, no chunks. feels smooth to the touch. I've heard some bad things about using scotch brite. Didn't know this was gonna be so tedious! |

RTV silicon on gasket surfaces of block and head with gasket sandwhiched between shouldn’t be a problem if they’re decent no?

Razor blade and brake kleen. No scotch brite (micron size of Scotch Brite was the concern). Discussed this with Ryan at GPI and that is what he recommended. Used a ‘rough’ edge blade so not to gouge. Ryan reviewed my pics, said good to go. Don’t forget to clean out the head bolt holes.
