Tune changing idle tone?

It might just be me but after installing my cam the car had a really nice chop to it, until I got it tuned. It seems like it was smoothed out a lot to sound almost stock until I hit the A/C... I'm just curious as to if a tune can actually change the "sound" by adjusting different parameters or if it is just me...

I wouldnt say it changes "tone" I know different tuners tune the idle at different rpms, this can have that effect, If you want the rough idle back tell him to set the idle lower.

Absolutely it can. Specifically, the Idle Adaptive Spark control Overspeed and Underspeed. You can add or subtract the amount of spark advance, so that the idle chops. You could do it with the stock cam if you wanted.

Download the HPTuners demo version and check it out.

Your idle was increased by about 100-150 rpm in the tune for the cam.

The first tune has a large swing from under to over spark. So the car would have a big choppy sound.

The second has less variation from over to under, so the swing in spark timing is tighter. This is the tune I have on my car. The chop sound is still there, but not as much. I find this tune to have better idle. My idle is set at 750.

I'm sure there are more fields in the tune that contribute to the chop sound, but these are the most popular I've found on the tuning forums.

I'm assuming you need to purchase the hptuners "programmer" to pull a tune file just to check it against the software?

You do need the hardware to pull the tune file, but it doesnt require licensing to pull and view the file, but you cant make changes. If you know someone with hp tuners they could pull it for you. Ask your tuner to email you the file.
